The struggle of Diana and her office colleagues faced Bossman summarized in Upi's latest
comedy, My Stupid Boss. The boss's various types of behavior, starting from trying to bribe customs to
dropping an iron door into the middle of the forest, are shown here. Audience may be frustrated when
watching Bossman's behavior. However, this character managed to become the strongest magnet in My
Stupid Boss. Some of the humor of this film, indeed, originated from a "collision" mindset of the
audience towards Reza Rahadian's self-image so far. The audience who used to know Reza Rahadian as a
young actor with an attractive appearance, who played a lot of serious roles, easily laughed when he saw
Reza's doubled chin, or when he cursed the word "tempe". The decision to play Reza was far more
effective than installing an aged player as Bossman. On the other hand, Reza Rahadian managed to
revive the Bossman character well. He showed that the role in comedy films must also be taken
seriously, including finding gestures, how to talk, and how to laugh at Bossman's character. Reza
Rahadian also successfully executed tasks that were not light. He built a character that sucks, but is able
to keep the eyes of the audience fixed on the screen.

However, Reza certainly did not work alone. In addition to Bunga Citra Lestari who was the
opponent, a number of supporting players from Malaysia also appeared shining. The two most
prominent are Chew Kin Wah as Mr. Kho who always looks tired on Bossman's behavior, and Bront
Palarae who plays Adrian, a flirtatious man with a cross mustache. Upi, who holds the film production
command, managed to design My Stupid Boss as a film that has a distinctive atmosphere. All aspects of
the film, ranging from color palettes, costumes and character makeup to the behavior of the players in
this film, are felt out of comics or cartoons. The appearance of each character in this film is so strange,
starting from the ‘catfish mustache’ Bossman, Diana's haircut to Bossman's wife with a towering high-
hair sasak. The character's behavior, such as slowly stretching his neck while watching the Bossman, is
reminiscent of the Tom & Jerry cartoon.

This comical nuance, if done carelessly, is easy to fall into a comedy that feels discouraged.
However, Upi proved that serious cultivation gave a worthy result.

It's just that, apart from all the cuteness of the play of My Stupid Boss, there is one thing that
feels a little bumpy. The plot in My Stupid Boss jumps more from one incident between Bossman and
Diana to another, each of which stands alone.

Not only have that, conflict resolution in this filmed also feels easy and clichéd. The journey of
the Bossman's character feels imperfect. Changes to the Bossman who initially claimed to not believe
anyone until finally wanted to keep a secret with Diana, seemed to happen quite suddenly. Beyond that,
My Stupid Boss is a comedy that is quite refreshing. What makes it more proud, since May 19 this film
was also played in Singapore, Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam. My Stupid Boss can be considered as one
proof that Indonesian directors are not only good at making serious films that target the festival, but also
light films that shuffle the audience's stomach
