Welcome to Pharmacology! This module will introduce you to course concepts and layout. Clarification questions are welcome in the
Pharm Café on the discussion board.

Modules in this course are organized by:
Learning Objectives
Always read the learning objectives! Course quizzes and exams are mapped to these objectives. Focus on the learning objectives
when reading the textbook. This strategy will minimize the temptation to become overwhelmed by the reading assignments. Questions
regarding learning objectives are welcome and encouraged.

Tasks
A task is a learning action that is not graded. Reading assignments are included in this section. Practice quizzes are optional tasks
(strongly recommended, but not required) and are not graded in this course.

Medication Cabinets
Medication cabinets include common medications relevant to the module. All
of the medications on exams in this course are included in the cabinet. The
format for drug names in this course is generic (Trade). Drugs are written in
this format for course modules and exams.

Assignments- An assignment is a graded item in this course.

Assessments- Assessments in this course include graded quizzes and examinations.

Tasks
1. Watch tegrity video of pharmacology across patient/client management. Download this template for taking notes.
2. Locate "pharmacological management" in the NPTE-PT Test Content Outline. In which domain of practice does this concept appear for each system?

Learning Objective #3: Identify appropriate resources for looking up drug information.
Exam content in this course is derived from the course textbook. In clinical settings, you may need to look up information on a computer
or mobile device. It is important to investigate the quality of resources that you use to look up medication information. Do not use
google, Wikipedia, or websites that post information from unknown or outdated sources.

Task
Look at the course tab "Drug information resources." Appropriate resources for drug information are provided here. Peer-reviewed
literature is also recommended when in-depth information is needed.

Learning Objective #4: Recognize common drug suffixes in a medication list.


Task
Review the common drug suffixes in the back inside cover of the pharmacology textbook. Make notecards/flashcards for studying
these suffixes.

Assignment
Identify 5 medications in medical charts that have a suffix in this list. Look up the medications and determine whether the suffix
confirms the primary indication for each medication.
Suffix assignment is due Sept. 16.

Assessment (Learning Objectives 1-4)


Complete the course introduction quiz. This quiz is not timed and not proctored. It covers the course introduction module, including
the tegrity video and drug information resources.
Course introduction quiz is due by Sept. 11.
