In Hungary there are some religious holidays, these are related to Christianity (krɪstɪænɪtiː). At Christmas we originally (ərɪʤŋəliː) celebrate the birth of
Jesus Christ (ʤiːzəz kraɪst). Easter is another Christian (krɪstʃən) holiday, when we remember the Resurrection (rezərekʃn) of Jesus, three days after his
death he came alive. After Easter in May there is Pentecost (pentɪkɔst), when we celebrate the descent (dɪsent) of Holy Spirit.

In Hungary we celebrate Easter with different customs. Girls and women paint eggs with nice patterns (pætns) and these are given to the men and the
boys who came to visit them. Men usually visit the female members of their friends and families and water them. The original (ərɪʤənl) custom was to
water them with a bucket of water but today only with some kind of perfume. For small children the Easter Bunny brings some little presents, mainly
chocolate eggs.

Yes, I can. In February we organize the Carnival (kɑrnɪvl), where people wear costumes and masks. On 15. March we commemorate (kəmeməreɪt) the
Hungarian Revolution of 1848. May 1. or May Day is the Labour Day, when we celebrate the work by not working. On 20. August we celebrate our first
king, Saint Stephen (sti:vn). On 23. October we commemorate the Revolution of 1956.

most important military patron saints. Halloween is on the 31. October. On 30. November it is the national holiday of Scotland and Saint Andrew.

Declaration of Independence when they got free from England. The second Monday in October it is Columbus Day to remember the famous explorer. The
fourth Thursday in November it is Thanksgiving, they give thanks to the autumn harvest and they remember the sharing of turkey dinner with Native
Americans.

Te megünnepeled a Valentin-napot?
Nos, nem igazán. Nem egy tipikus magyar ünnep, ezt az Egyesült Államokból vettük át. Ezen a napon a párok kis
Well, not really. It isn’t a typical Hungarian holiday, it is considered to be taken from the USA. On this day every couple give little presents to each other
and it is said to be the day of lovers. I don’t really agree, I think lovers should express their feeling all the time, not just once a year. Naturally there are
many romantic films on this day.
