'SHE Team’ on the patrol in Odisha
Why in News > To ensure safety and security of young girls and
women Odisha’s Gajapati district police in Paralakhemundi
has started a pilot project called the ‘SHE Team’.

About
• SHE stands for ‘Safety, Health
and Environment’.
• This project is modelled on the
lines of Hyderabad ‘SHE Team’.
• It is headed by a lady sub-
inspector and includes mobile
patrolling teams.

• ‘SHE Team’ also seeks to prevent harassment of


working women at workplaces and public places
where they move for their job.
• It will also self-defence and cyberspace safety to
young girls and children.
G-20 Summit–2019 Outcomes

Why in News > Recently the 11th G20 Summit was


held in Osaka, Japan on 28th-29th June, 2019.
About
• The G20 Summit 2019 was based on
discussions on subjects like trade,
energy, climate change etc.
• Indian PM (his sixth G-20 summit) held
many plurilateral meetings with other
world leaders like heads of Russia, USA,
Japan, China etc.
• Along with that India also participated in
two parallel tri-laterals i.e the Russia-
India-China (RIC) and Japan-U.S.-India
(JAI) and an informal BRICS summit.
G-20 Summit–2019

• JAI Trilateral: Three countries discussed issues of the


Indo-Pacific region, connectivity and infrastructure
development. It was the second Japan-America-India
(JAI) meeting.
• Informal BRICS meet: India stressed the need to stop
all the mediums of support to terrorism and racism.
Indian PM called terrorism "the biggest threat to
humanity" which kills innocent and severely affects
economic development and social stability.
• India and the US discussed various bilateral and global
issues including Iran, 5G communications networks,
trade and defence ahead of the G-20 Summit.
G-20 Summit–2019

• India targeted to become a five-trillion dollar economy in the


next five years.
• Further India pledged to make Social sector as its top
priority and resolve to focus on infrastructure
development, especially digital infrastructure.
• However, Indian PM also highlighted the deficiency of
resources, underlining that "there is a shortfall of almost
$1.3 trillion investment in the infrastructure.

• India also invited the G20 countries to join a global coalition


on disaster resilience, saying disasters require quick and
effective remedial measures as they invariably affect the
poor the most.
• India and Indonesia set an ambitious USD 50 billion targets
for bilateral trade over the next six years.
About G-20

• G20 is a global forum comprised of twenty of the world’s


largest economies.
• It focuses on addressing global economic challenges.
• Its membership includes 19 countries and European Union.
• After the Asian Financial Crisis in 1997-1998, it was
acknowledged that the participation of major emerging
market countries is needed on discussions on the
international financial system, and G7 finance ministers
agreed to establish the G20 Finance Ministers and Central
Bank Governors meeting in 1999.
• The group does not have permanent offices or employees.
• The President is chosen by a rotation system amongst the
member countries.
About G-20

• There are two working channels of G20,


• Finance Channel - It covers meetings between finance
ministers and central bank presidents.
• The Sherpas Channel - It covers non-financial issues, such
as political commitment, the fight against corruption,
development, gender equality, trade and energy.

• Civil societies through, Affinity groups participate in the


G20 that seeks to enrich submit.
• The key regional organizations like ASEAN, African
Union, OECD, ILO are usually invited to participate and
are represented by the country that holds the presidency.
INS 'Shivalik' and 'Sindhukirti'

Why in News > Defence Minister visited the Indian


Navy's indigenously designed stealth frigate, INS
'Shivalik' and INS 'Sindhukirti'.
About INS 'Shivalik'
• INS 'Shivalik' is India’s first stealth frigate in
the shivalik series under project 17 with 80%
indigenous content.
• Stealth frigates can escape detection by
normal radars and surveillance equipment.
• INS 'Shivalik' is armed with missiles,
helicopter support, mounted guns and a
combat management system that can
effectively coordinate all weapons and
sensors onboard, giving it the ability to deal
with multiple threats.
INS 'Shivalik' and 'Sindhukirti'

• Special aerodynamics, equipment, and materials


used in designing and building INS 'Shivalik' makes
it very difficult to monitor their movements.
• Apart from India, only the US, Russia, UK, France,
Sweden, Japan, Italy, and China have the capability
to build stealth warships of this size and class.
Project 17 – Shivalik class Frigate
• The Shivalik class or Project 17 class is a class of
multi-role frigates in service with the Indian Navy.
• Stealth Frigates under Shivalik class series namely
INS Shivalik, INS Sahyadri, and INS Satpura are first
stealth warships built in India (by Mazagon Dock
Limited).

About INS Sindhukirti


• The INS Sindhukirti, among the oldest
operational submarines in the Navy, is
diesel-electric class submarine that
can launch torpedoes, missiles, and
even mines.
• Acquired in 1990, the submarine still
forms a part of the Navy's cutting
edge as it's been refitted - virtually
rebuilt with modern sensors weapons
and systems.
Tamil yeoman is now T.N.’s ‘State Butterfly’

Why in News > The Mahatma Gandhi Information
Technology & Biotech Park (MGIT-BP) has been
inaugurated in Côte d’Ivoire.
About
• The MGIT-BP was jointly inaugurated
by Ambassador of India and Vice
President of Cote d’Ivoire in Grand-
Bassam, Cote d’Ivoire on 27 June 2019.
• The MGIT-BP is being built with India’s
assistance through EXIM Bank Lines of
Credit of US$ 20 million.
• MGIT-BP is a dedicated Free Trade
Zone (FTZ) for IT & Biotechnology.
MAHATMA GANDHI IT & BIOTECHNOLOGY
PARK (MGIT-BP)
The MGIT-BP project consists of two parts:
• Firstly, architectural concept and design for the
buildings of FTZ and construction of main building
to host IT enterprises.
• Secondly, supply and commissioning of equipment
which included, Computer Assembly Plant, VSAT
with Satellite Earth Station, Networking Lab,
Human DNA Lab, Data Storage Area Network, an
Audio-Visual Lab and a power generator.
