Q.5 Write short notes.
L.M.T. (Local Mean Time) Culmination of Sun on Upper Meridian (at Zenith point) is
accepted as 12Hrs. noon. The Sun can culminate at meridian of any latitudes at same time but
it cannot culminate on every longitude at same time, even within the difference of 1° longitude
= 4 minutes, Sun moves forward or remains backward of any particular longitude.
1° longitude = 4 minutes, 360° circle = 1440 minutes = 24 Hours. Hence, for the proper
management of time and coordination with different places we have fixed the time zones at the
interval of 7° 30’longitude = 30 minutes. (The whole world is divided in 48 time zones)
Same way for any particular place or country we can calculate the time difference between
standard time and local time. If the place is towards east of Standard time longitude add the
difference in standard time for obtaining local mean time If the place is towards West of
Standard time longitude subtract the difference from standard time for obtaining local mean
time. (360° arc = 24 hrs. of time, hence 360 ÷ 24 = 15 conversion factor for arc & time
For longitude Correction of place East of Greenwich
L.M.T. Correction = Birth place longitudes – Standard Time Longitudes ÷15
For longitude Correction of place West of Greenwich
L.M.T. Correction = Standard Time Longitudes - Birth place longitudes ÷15
Meridian: The meridian is the point just above the head of the native. It is known as Zenith
point also. There are two meridians Upper Meridian just above the head and Lower Meridian
just below the earth. (Opposite to upper meridian).
When Sun reaches the Meridian, it gives maximum light, heat and energy, same way planets
near meridian give maximum of their own quality.
In astrology Meridian signifies social status, name, fame, reputation, career, higher authority,
father of the native.
