The Life of Kelly Reid

Born on July 5, 2002, Kelly Margaret Reid brought into the world her own style,

personality, and character from day one. Raised in a five kid, two parent family, she quickly

adapted the love of people, as well as human interaction. Growing up alongside her two favorite

furry friends, her miniature poodle dogs, Ace and Millie, she also became very fond of animals.

Every aspect of her life has been developed through her experiences turning her into who she is

today. Kelly is hardworking, persistent, and selfless.

All throughout her life, Kelly’s parents have always taught her the importance of hard

work and self-driven determination. Whether this was in school or friendships or in sports, Kelly

always took this life lesson to heart, working the best she could in everything did. Kelly, right

now, is a high school junior with enough credits to graduate a year early and has decided to

further her education at her community college while still being in high school. Kelly is working

double of what most of her high school classmates are working for no specific reason other than

to be better prepared in college and in life, however, she is only able to do this if she continues to

work hard and put her best effort into every task.

Giving up is one of the easiest things to do in life and one of the hardest habits to

overcome. Persistence is a trait that cannot rub off on you or be encoded in your DNA. Only you

can control your strive to continue working hard to get what you want. This, to Kelly, is the most

important trait to have, but almost the toughest to acquire. She learned the importance of self-
motivated persistence through tennis. Tennis had always been apparent in her life, being born to

two tennis players, but she never felt motivated to play. Year after year all of her friends worked

harder and harder to be better tennis players and Kelly quickly fell behind because simply, she

lacked the motivation to play and found no importance to work hard in the sport. Coming

freshman year in high school, tryouts for the team began and it was obvious to Kelly she had not

been ready. She had been assigned to the JV team when all of her friends made the A team.

Although she tried hard to hide her disappointment, Kelly couldn’t help but feel left out.

However, after season Kelly made a promise that she would not put herself through that again.

After that she worked three times harder than anyone else on the team. Playing tennis three hours

a day plus workouts to stay on top of her game, she showed her determination. Next season

Kelly came out to tryouts surprising everyone there at her quickly acquired, newly improved

tennis skills. After making the Varsity A team, Kelly instinctively reflected on her year and how

not only she developed new tennis skills, but also added persistence to her character skills,

learning you can achieve any goal with self-motivated persistence

Growing up in a large family with multiple older and younger siblings, you are forced to

adapt the trait of selflessness. Kelly learned from a young age that not everything is about you

and there are times that you cannot be the focus because someone else needs it more than you.

As a child, this is the worst news to hear because everyone wants to be the center of attention,

but after many lessons you learn to be more aware of others rather than constantly thinking of

yourself. Kelly most often finds herself feeling the most selfless in family situations, where her

parents are not able to give her the attention she wants because someone else is in need of it

more than her. With four other siblings, the spotlight was rarely on her, which she quickly got

used to and soon was automatically being there for her siblings or for her parents when she
needed to. Even if she felt she needed the attention or help too, she always put the happiness of

her family before her and did everything she could to help each other feel more comfortable.

Because of these experiences, Kelly now uses selfishness in her everyday life.

In conclusion, experiences throughout her life, has shaped Kelly’s personality and has

created her into the hardworking, persistent, and selfless young woman she is today. Kelly is

excited to see how these traits will affect her later in life and she hopes to use each of these traits

to support and contribute to her success. How will your characteristics contribute to your

success? How do you characterize yourself?
