Competency:
A cluster of related abilities, commitments, knowledge, and skills that enable a person to act effectively
in a job or situation.
Competence indicates sufficiency of knowledge and skills that enable someone to act in a wide variety
of situations. Because each level of responsibility has its own requirements, competence can occur in
any period of a person's life or at any stage of his or her career.

Competence is the demonstrable characteristics that enable performance of a job, for properly doing
the job, the individual requires skills and knowledge essential for the set duties. A competency is a set of
defined behaviors that provide a structured guide enabling the identification, evaluation and
development of the behaviors in individual employees.

Capability:
Measure of the ability of an entity (department, organization, and person, system) to achieve its
objectives, especially in relation to its overall mission. Capability is the ability to perform or achieve
certain actions or outcomes.

Difference between competency and capability:

'Capability' and 'competence' are inherently very closely related to each other, however, there are
subtle differences between the two. .. Competency is the possession of the skills, knowledge and
capacity to fulfil Current needs and capability focuses on the ability to develop and flex to meet Future
needs.
