ABOUT ITC

ITC Limited or ITC is an Indian conglomerate headquartered in Kolkata, West Bengal.


Its diversified business includes five segments: Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG),
Hotels, Paperboards & Packaging, Agri Business & Information Technology.
Established in 1910 as the Imperial Tobacco Company of India Limited, the company
was renamed as the Indian Tobacco Company Limited in 1970 and further to I.T.C.
Limited in 1974. The periods in the name were removed in September 2001 for the
company to be renamed as ITC Ltd. The company completed 100 years in 2010 and as of
2012-13, had an annual turnover of US$8.31 billion and a market capitalization of
US$45 billion. It employs over 25,000 people at more than 60 locations across India
and is part of Forbes 2000 list.

It is an acknowledgement of the scale and impact of its sustainability initiatives
which have created large scale livelihoods and augmented natural resources. ITC�s
business and value chains have created sustainable livelihood for 5 million people,
many of them belong to the poorest sections of society.

1. Watershed Development Programme


Provides water to the areas where there#is scarcity of water.

Plan covers over 100000 hectares of water-stressed lands.


Helps in building of water harvesting.Water retaining structures in water-stressed
areas

2. E-Choupal rural digital-physical infrastucture#


Empowers the even the smallest of farmers by#giving them relevant information
upon:-##1.Fair market prices of their produce.##2.Weather
information.##3.Techniques to enhance farm-production.##4.InformatioAAn on seed
quality and what they should buy.##5.Type of fertilizer and or manure to be
used.##6.Better accessibility to the market.

3. Renewable Energy

Renewable energy provides more#than 38% of all the energy needs of ITC.
ITC has setup 14MW of wind energy#facility to provide power to the#packaging unit
in Chennai.
Also commissioned a 21MW facility in#Karnataka and 2.5MW in Rajasthan.
Investments are also being made to#wind energy facilitates to provide
#supplementary power to ITC�s hotels#in Chennai and Mumbai.
4. Empowering the Differently abled#
ITC gives fair chance to the differently #abled persons to earn a livelihood.
ITC have employed over 100 differently#abled persons to job like house-keeping,
#teleworking, bakeries and also as#musicians.
The company provides these people with#special training and equipments to deal#with
their day-to-day work.
ITC have been awarded �NCPEDP shell#Helen Keller Award� to their hotels for
their#outstanding work.

5. WoW-Wealth out of waste programme (Wellbeing Out of Waste)

Promotes resource conservation and#recycling of waste.


Educates and creates awareness about#the need of �Reduce-Reuse-Recycle�
Provides recyclable materials like glass, paper,#plastic to the industries.
Operational in Chennai, Hyderabad, Cochin, #Coimbatore, Madurai, Trichi.
It helps to augument green cover, conserves, #natural resources, reduce wastage.

6. Women Empowerment Programme

This programme has benefitted to more than#400000 rural women to become self
sufficient.
This programme imparts education to rural #women so that a better society can be
made.
Has created self-help groups of women which#have now become self-sufficient by
self-micro#financing.
Imparting education to the children through the#local educated women.

7. Social Farm and Forestry

Helps the farmers and tribals to produce #plantations on their wastelands.#


Provides the farmers with cloned seeds#which grow better and produce better
in#harsh conditions.#
Provides farmers with know-how to#convert their wasteland into a
plantation#producing land.

8. Education#
ITC�s primary education programme is #designed to provide children from weaker#
sections, access to education with focus #on quality and retention.#
Over 453000 children benefited from# this programme.#
In the third quarter of 2015-16, 15 more #government primary schools were provided
#infrastucture support comprising additional classrooms,# sanitation units,
furniture and electrical fittings, boundary walls etc.#

9. Skilling and Vocational Training#


Given the inadequate availability of skilled #manpower and the government�s efforts
to#promote vocational training.#
ITC�s Vocational Training programme plays#an active role in building and upgrading
skills#of marginalised youth to better meet the #emerging needs of job market.#
A programme to promote entrepreneurship for#self-help groups from economically
weaker sections#of the society was launched in select districts of odisha.
10. Live stock development

It remains a key focus areas of ITC�s CSR# initiatives.The programme for generic#
improvement of cattle through artificial #insemination to produce high
yielding#crossbred progenies is implemented through# 250cattle development centers
covering over #10500 villages.#
ITC�s CSR initiatives aimed at enhancing milk production,#increasing diary farm
productivity and ensuring remunarative#prices to farmers in multiple locations
continued to make #good progress#

11. Soil and moisture conservation

ITC�s soil and moisture conservation #programme, designed to assist farmers #in
identified moisture stresses areas.##
ITC made taking total of 7425 water harvesting #structures covering 236000 hectares
in identified#moisture stressed areas.

12. ITC Sangeet Research Academy

It is a unique institution which has been at#the forefront of promoting the ancient
of#tradition of Hindustani Classical Music.#
ITC-SRA is recognized as the finest repository #of Hindustani Classical Music in
terms of #musicians, music archives and training facilities.#
ITC-SRA continues to passionately pursue its#mission of preserving, propagating and
promoting#Hindustani Classical Music.

CONCLUSION
ITC being a very large company and working across different sectors of business is
actively engaged in CSR activities having a vision to serve a larger National
purpose of nation building through cross values so that every part of the society
have the chance and the accessibility to the basic needs which the rural India
doesn�t have through imparting assistance and education to uplift them from poverty
