Document Development Exposition: Correspondence

ENGL 2116

Explain in detail your document’s development from planning to finish, describing your
challenges, how you overcame them, and what you learned.

Planning
I began starting off with ideas what to use as a problem. As my topic was earthquake, I wanted to
keep the earthquake preparation theme. So, for the email I wanted to write to colleagues so I tried
to keep it a little less formal and make a setting of workforce communication. For the letter I wrote
to the residents themselves representing the organization so I kept it very forma and tried to make it
look professional.

First Draft (for peer editing)

My first draft was terrible I did not know how to do letter head for my letter and add logos. Also, I
was having trouble writing towards the colleague audience as I struggled to keep it formal but not
too formal. I struggled to find the middle ground. I also struggled to make word count as I tried to
not make it look like a research paper.

Second Draft (for your packet)

I corrected my mistakes from the peer edit. The colleague who peer edited my paper also showed
me how to create a letter head and make sure that my email wasn’t too formal. I followed along with
the fixes he gave me and tried to follow the outline of the powerpoint.

Final Draft (for your portfolio)

For the email I removed my logo, I added headings for each paragraph and I also put a good closing
statement.

For my letter I tried to fiddle around with the letter head reducing white space I created a divider to
define the margins more however I feel like it had the opposite effect. I also changed the font.
