Document Development Exposition: Instructions and Usability Memo

Explain in detail your document’s development from planning to finish, describing your
challenges, how you overcame them, and what you learned.

Planning
As we looked at the previous memo on the website we all just collaborated and came up with ideas
that we should correct. Colleagues stated that some of the content are already good enough to
reuse. We needed to update the pictures for the app as they were outdated. We also needed to take
care of the white space as there was an overabundance. We also talked about how we could use
more relevant images for each step. Also, to use a wrap around feature to make it look more eye-
catching. We also debated if we should remove the index/table of contents as it was not necessary

As we begin working, we all split each section between each group member. As some of the logo or
icons were outdated and looked different compared to the actual mobile map. We took screen shots
and uploaded the new images to the document. One problem we came across is to what actual
content to keep and delete. All of it would seem relevant however too much of the information
made it seem very lengthy to read. We made sure to use prose and plain language for our audience.
We stayed away from nominalization and made sure our memo was very formal.

Final Draft (for your portfolio)

The final draft changes consisted of alignment changes with the closed question and close ended
results. I made them aligned on the same line.

On the mobile water data tutorial, changes consisted of punctuation for the steps, Adding an action
to instructions, and spacing.

I replaced a lot of descriptive text with the actual icon image. Under the using the menu area I
included what the menu consisted of after the colon. I drew arrows to match the description with
the menu picture.
