Transient stability improvement


The figure clearly illustrates the stabilizing effect of the SVC during
transient conditions produced by temporary fault situations. In the
cases shown, a fault was cleared after five cycles, and the subse-
quent voltage swings are being efficiently damped by the SVC.
1750 MW denotes the transient stability limit without a
compensator.

With the compensator in operation, the transient stability limit is


increased, and in the case shown (1850 MW), the SVC conse-
quently saves the system from voltage collapse.
