ANNUAL MAINTENANCE

The followmg checks should be performed every twelve months to insure complete and
proper operatlon of the cassette holder

VERTICAL POSITIONING CHECK

Release the vemcal lock The toothed lock plunger should completely disengage from
the lock stnp, the vemcal carnage should move freely and smoothly over the entue range
of travel with m m a l side play The camage should r em m posiuon or dnft slowly
upward when released If necessary, add or subtract tnmmer weights untd counterbalance

Reengage the vemcal lock The lock plunger teeth should fully engage the lock stnp,
prevenmg further vertlcal motlon If the lock does not hold or bmds, check lock hardware
for rmsahgnment, wear, etc

COUNTERWEIGHT CABLE INSPECTION

NOTE The procedun autllned In thb section mqulrss nmoval of tho front covers from
tho cassotto holdw
Visually mspect the counterweight cables for wear, fraying. lunluag, or rust To detect
broken strands, move the cassette holder through its en- range of vemcal travel while
r u m g a soft cloth or cotton along the cables (The enwe length of the cables must be
checked ) If any broken wires are found, irnmednte replacement of both cables 1s
recommended Knked cables and cables with any corrosion or rust at or near an anchor
point should also be replaced Also check for s h y spots whxh indate cable wear

In cases of premature cable wear. check for and ehmmate the cause if possible M i a g n e d
pulleys, for example, may be responsible In such cases the =des of the grooves may show
evidence of rubbing Should cable replacement be made, all pulleys showing excessive
wear should be replaced as well

Check the conditlon of cable anchor points The anchor hardware should be structurally
sound, replace If any structural weaknesses are detected

Finally. lubncate the cables by wiping them wth a cloth saturated wth STP (or slrmlar
lubncant) Apply the lubncant hghtly so that an oil film sjust wible, wipe off any excess
Make sure the poruon of each cable which bears agunst the pulley groove 1s carefully
lubncated SOLVENTS SHOULD NEVER BE USED TO CLEAN THE CABLES

The pulleys on which the counterweight cables nde have a permanently sealed beanng
which should provide lubncation for the life of the equipment Lubncatron 1s not required
as pan of the mamtenance schedule unless it should be mdicated that lubncauon is
inadequate (excessive fnction, squealung, etc ) Should hoccur, a few drops of oil
may be injected as a temporary measure untd the pulleys can be replaced
