(calls for family dinner)

so kamusta ang studies anak? Konting-konti na lang at makapagtatapos ka na din.

Aspiring Dancer (Ercia):

Uhm. Okay lang naman po Dad. Sana nga po matapos ko na din po itong course na ito.

Father:

What do you mean na “sana”?

Aspiring Dancer (Ercia):

Kasi po……

Mother:

So when did you start going behind our backs?

Aspiring Dancer (Ercia):

Po? What do you mean Ma?

Mother:

(brings out letter) Ano ‘tong invitation to dance in a concert? Akala ko ba magfo-focus ka lang sa studies
mo?
 Aspiring Dancer (Ercia):

Ma, susubukan ko lang naman po sana. Makakatulong po kasi yung concert since it opens so many doors
for me to pursue dancing.

Father:

Anak… Hindi mo kailangan yan. Ang kailangan mo is just to focus on your studies being an architect.
Mahihirapan ka lang i-balance ang oras mo. Trust us, being an architect is a much more respectable
career. Look at your sister. Why can’t you be more like her?

Sister

(to father in a gentle manner) Taman a Dad. ‘wag niyo na po kami i-compare. She’s still doing well in her
academics, so I think she deserves this break.

Mother

Hindi! Kailangang Makita ng kapatid mon a hindi practical yang pagsasayaw niya nay an. Turuan mo
siya.

Aspiring Dancer (Ercia):

Pero hindi niyo naiintindihan Dad, dancing is my passion. This is the thing I love.

Mother:

Narinig mo ang daddy mo. That’s enough.

Aspiring Dancer (Ercia):

But Ma, Eto na po ang chance ko, maybe it won’t come again. Hindi ko po kayo gustong suwayin, wala
naman pong mali sa ginagawa ko. Kaya pupunta pa din po ako. Sorry. (storms out)

Scene 2: First day of reheasals

Announcer:

Good Morning Dancers! I would like to welcome you all to our first rehearsals. Come on, gather around.

Another thing, today you should already have your groups. Sige na group yourselves. You know time flies
very fast, mas mabilis pang maubos kaysa sa libreng pa-sopas ni mayor tuwing Christmas.

Kaya come on. Daliiiiii!

(was interrupted by his assistant)

Aaspiring Dancer (Ercia):

(approaches Professional Dancer’s Group) Hi guys, I’m er—

Professional Dancer (Jannah)

(demonstrates to stop Ercia from talking) Stop there! First, we don’t accept just anyone “like you”in our
group. Secondly, who are you, to come over and interrupt our convo? You’re just new here right? So, know
position.

Professional Dancer (______)

Wait, third and last of course. You don’t even look like a dancer. Your hair is messy, you look like you’re
stinky. You’re ratchet!

Wait search ko, narinig ko lang ‘yun sa kanta (giggles)

Aspiring Dancer (Ercia)

Oh, uhm, uhm sorry, sorry. Hindi ko sinasadya na abalahin yung pag-uusap niyo.

Professional Dancer (Jannah)

Anyways. Kaya kung balak mong sumali sa amin, don’t count on it. Tara guys. (walks out of the scene)

Professional Dancer (________)

(makes face towards Ercia while walking away)

Aspiring Dancer (Lara)

(approaches Ercia) Uy, narinig ko yung pinag-usapan niyo. Don’t worry about them (motion’s to
professionals Dancer’s group) mukhang masyado silang choosy sa members nila. Anyway fell free to join
us if you want.

Aspiring Dancer (Ercia)

 Kaya nga ang tataray din nila. (smiles) Of course. Thank you!

Annoucer

(clap, clap, clap) Okay dancers, gather up for warm ups na!

-Brief Dance Number-

(aspiring dancer ercia stands out and Professional Dancer Jannah notices)

(assistant rushes to Announcer and whispers)

Announcer

(clap, clap, clap) Stop! Take a break muna

(announcer quietly speaks to assistant)

Professional Dancer (Jannah)

(approaches Aspiring Damcer Ercia) Looks like I misjudged you. Gusto mo pa ba sumali sa amin?

Aspiring Dancer Ercia

Thanks, pero sumali na ako sa kabilang group.

Announcer

(turns to dancers) May I have your attention please, we have an issue. Our principal sponsor backed out
which means if we cannot pay our expenses for the show in three days, we will have to cancel this
concert. Kaya we’re asking for your help. What we can do for now is go the extra mile to find someone to
be our sponsor.
 Dancers

(all give reassurance in your own words)

Announcer

Thank you. That’s all for now. If you don’t have anything to do na. you may already go.

(Dancer and Announcer Exit the stage opposite ends)

Scene 3: Streets

(three days later)

Aspiring Dancer (Ian)

Tatlong araw na tayo dito, Mukhang Mukhang Maka-cancel na talaga yung show.

Aspiring Dancer (Lara)

Don’t give up guys. We need to make this work. Di pa tapos ang araw kaya may pag-asa pa. Tara malay
niyo yung sponsor na yun parating.

Comedian and his Girlfriend enters stage towards the end of the number

Girlfriend

(motions to dancers) babe, look! This looks interesting. (Leads comedian to dancers)
 Aspiring Dancer (Alex)

(whispers to Ian) Uy, di’ba siya yung sikat na comedian. Balita ko mabait daw siya.

Dancers see comedian and Girlfriend

Aspiring Dancer (Lara)

Sir basically, this show will introduce aspiring dancers to better opportunities. It will give them the
chance to showcase their talents and promote dancing to everyone. And we need you, Sir to be their main
supporter.

Dancers

(generally) please sir! Last day na po naming ngayon. Pleaseeeee.

Comedian

(thinks for a moment) okay, okay, I’ll be your main sponsor. Babe, can I have my checkbook and a pen.

Girlfriend

(Giddy manner) Oh! Ang sweet naman ng baby ko. (finds checkbook and pen and lend to comedian) ito o
babe.
 Comedian

Oo naman wala man lang ba akong kiss jan?

(almost kissing)

(interrupted by comedian)

A big buuuuuut! Remember this guys, without passion, any rational person would give up. Do your best
coz I’m counting on you.

Dancers

(giddy manner) sir! Thank you so much po. We’ll definitely do our best.

(group hug. Girlfriend and comedian exit stage)

Scene 4: Show Day On-Stage

Announcer

(to audience) Good Evening ladies and gentlemen and welcome to Passion and Motion. We are grateful
for your presence tonight.

We have been through a rough road to make this show happen and I can truly say it was passion that
brought us here tonight. Now, without further ado, let’s welcome…… The Dreamers!!!!

(Professional Dancers group are already on stage, aspiring dancers walk by)

Professional Dancer (Jannah)

(to Ercia) better not mess up guys!

Aspiring Dancer (Ercia)

Don’t you worry, we won’t. Pasalamat kayo nakahanap kami ng sponsor para lang matuloy tong show
natin. (hair flip)

Mother

Anak, Im sorry we never understood how important this is for you. Now that we’ve seen it, I hope you
know that we’ll support you all the way.

Father

Yes, we decided to let you live your life the way you feel you should. Kung dito ka talaga magiging
masaya. Masaya na din kami.

Sister

See, I’m glad things worked out for you. Alam mob a, pinilit ko lang talaga sina mama at dad na pumunta
here to watch and support you. Kaya dapat you give me a treat. (winks)

Aspiring Dancer (Ercia)

Thank you ate. You never failed to support me. Wait, ba’t ako ang kailangan magtreat ‘di ba dapat ikaw
kasi ginalingan ko.

Sister

What?! (giggles)

na manuod kasi he saw something special in you, and I saw it too. Anyways, I have a friend working on a
