SCHOOL BASED FEEDING PROGRAM

Consistently throughout the years, Tukuran Technical-Vocational High School has been providing
comfort and solace to its young school children. Apart from the best holistic education that it offers to
the community, the school also delivers, in its simplest ways, nourishment and wellness thru its regular
feeding program.

Financed by the proceeds of teachers’ donations, school fund raising activities, canteen income and
other external sources, TTVHS has fed these young souls not only with food and other edible stuff but
most especially with the fuel to sustain their dreams and aspirations, tender loving care.

One of the partners of this endeavor is the school’s Care for the Non-Reader department where
students with special reading needs are the recipients of this program.

In TTVHS, students do not only learn the basics of syllabic recognition and the power of numbers but
also the proper steps and imperatives of table manners, personal hygiene, and nutrition education.

2. NATIONAL DRUG EDUCATION PROGRAM

Responding to the call of the national government under the Duterte administration for a drug-free
nation, Tukuran Technical-Vocational High School formally institutionalized its Barkada Kontra Droga
program last July 2016. Eversince its formal institution, a special group of students who shall spearhead
the drive against drug abuse and the advocacies on drug prevention and control is duly organized every
school year. Strategically composed of representatives from the different year levels, the student
organization which shall be known as the “Barkada Kontra Droga ng TTVHS” aims to lead the in and out-
of-school youth of the community to combat illegal drugs
Now in 2019, TTVHS has taken its biggest strides in making sure that the students and all the other
young people in the community are safeguarded in terms of drug abuse prevention and control.
With President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s strengthened drive to combat the proliferation of illegal drugs
in the country, the institution also aims to achieve a zero drugs rate index and a fully drug-free school
environment and a more responsive community of locals who are more aware and vigilant.
Armed with a wider scope of implementation due to the onslaught of the senior high school
students coming from the local community, TTVHS has joined forces with various government offices,
non-government organizations, religious entities, the PTA, barangay officials all over the municipality,
the Municipal LGU and the whole student body.

NDEP INTEGRATION IN ALL THE SUBJECT AREAS

To sustain the Barkada Kontra Droga advocacy in Tukuran Technical-Vocational High School, all
curriculum departments have adopted the National Drug Education Program (NDEP) visions and ideals
as an integral part of the holistic development of the students. Every 3rd Friday of each month, all
lessons for all subject areas are devoted to drug education. This curricular integration has paved way to
a more vigilant and wiser studentry on the matters about illegal drugs. Teachers’ Daily Lesson Logs are
periodically checked and approved by the respective department heads.

NDEP CORNERS
Every single area, classroom and office in the school is equipped with anti-drug campaign posters,
tarpaulins and an NDEP (National Drug Education Program) corner, potent reminders of the ill effects
and horrors of illegal drugs to young and old people alike.
3. WASH IN SCHOOLS (WinS)
The implementation of the WASH and WinS or Washing, sanitation and hygiene education in schools
was one of the main concentrations of the 2018 Brigada Eskwela, and it was one of the major points
that brought TTVHS to victory as the National Brigada Eskwela awardee for the second year in a row.

In Tukuran Technical-Vocational High School, the WASH and WinS endeavor is accomplished through
the construction of classroom lavatories, comfort rooms, safety and emergency kits and other facilities
for the purpose. With the learners’ comfort and safety, and education on readiness, health and
sanitation in mind, the WASH scheme advocates the values of cleanliness and self-discipline: the ideals
that build up a nation of responsible and healthy Filipinos.

Safe and comfortable communal and classroom comfort rooms are readily available for everyone to use
during personal necessities.

Moreover, personal hygiene messages promoting the proper use of toilets and handwashing facilities
are posted in health corners and other conspicuous places inside the classrooms and around the campus
where these facilities are located. Students are being reminded that these messages do not only provide
important information but also a constant reminder that improper or lack of personal hygiene poses
great risk to their health and well-being.

Inside every classroom is a safe drinking water dispenser set provided in collaboration with the school,
the classroom adviser and the parents who only desire the best health for their children.

Annual deworming activities are done in the school, keeping 85% of the school children safe from
parasitic dangers.

4. MEDICAL AND NURSING SERVICES

One of the most expensive human necessities is medical care. Some families do not have the capacity
to bring their children to medical care. In TTVHS, thankfully so, the round-the-clock medical and nursing
services are provided to all the students, teachers and staff.
Accessible in a nurse’s office with all the emergency medical supplies, facilities and the full-time nurse
Mrs. Georgina Maghinay, emergency medical services are provided for everyone.

During the enrolment season, strict compliance of the steps which include individual physical
examination, SBI and nutritional assessment, and visual and auditory test is a must.

Donations for most of the expenses for additional medical kits and supplies, as well as the provision of
health facilities inside the school are coming from the parents, LGU, alumni, and other stakeholders.

5. DENTAL SERVICES

As the biggest secondary school in the municipality, Tukuran Technical-Vocational High School has been
serving as the most responsive educational institution not only in terms of academics, sports, the arts,
and technical skills. It also serves as a venue for humanitarian efforts and programs geared towards the
service of the community.
 One of its notable contributions is its Dental Service last June 28, 2018 wherein five dentists, three
nurses and one dental aid came to serve. A total of 148 extractions was accomplished and the student-
recipients of the program, along with the parents and the community were all thankful for all the free
services extended.

Around the school, lavatories that serve as toothbrushing and handwashing facilities abound. The
existence of these facilities is one of the most important motivation for students to care for their dental
health.

6. ADOLESCENT REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH (ARH)

Adolescent Reproductive Health related activities in the school are yearly, regular endeavor because it
is one of the most important aspect of the students’ holistic development.

Symposiums and trainings are provided to reinforce the proper way of handling problems and issues
related to human sexuality, especially by teens to their fellow young people. A teen center welcomes
students as they explore the wonderful facets of their personalities and celebrate the wonders of youth.

The female of the species celebrates her femininity with pride and honor. TTVHS shares that same level
of importance that is afforded to the female students by providing them with classroom facilities that
preserves dignity, privacy, security and comfort during their special monthly cycle.

Cubicles and room extensions are constructed inside classrooms so that female students will not have
to go home and miss their classes. These also serve as rest area for the students and their teachers.

Emergency kits and other necessities are stored inside each special facility made especially for the
female students and teachers. Hygiene supplies like soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, sanitary pads,
cotton, rubbing alcohol, white wipes and tissue paper always come in handy.
