Righteousness: The Guarantee of Our

Fellowship with the Father

Date: September 17, 2016Author: saintofchrist0 Comments

“…truly our fellowship is with Father and with His Son Jesus Christ”. – 1John 1:3
Have you ever heard someone say that when you do something wrong, you “break
fellowship” with God? Such teaching claims that though your sonship is not affected,
you’re not in fellowship with God until you settle your scores with Him. They got this
idea because of their own human experiences.

You didn’t achieve or come into fellowship with the Father because of your
righteousness; it came because He gave you His righteousness. How could then your
righteousness sustain it? The truth is, your fellowship with the Father is not and can never
be affected because of what you did or didn’t do. He already knew you couldn’t make it
on your own, which is the reason He made allowance for your errors by making it
possible for you to receive forgiveness: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to
forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1John 1:9).

Never think of God as a Father who holds on to “issues” with His kids, ready to consume
them with fire for doing something wrong. The Father’s love for you is too strong and
immeasurable for Him to break fellowship with you because you did something wrong.
Jesus said, “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he
may abide with you forever (John 14:16). God the Father, through the Holy Spirit abides
with you forever, not sometimes. Also in Matthew 28:20, Jesus didn’t say, “I will break
fellowship with you when you do something wrong”. He said, “…lo, I am with you
always” (Hebrews 13:5; John 10:28). Therefore, when you err, He maintains fellowship
with you and guides you unto repentance, if He broke fellowship with you, you could
never return; but that can only happen when you completely reject Him as your Lord and
Savior (Hebrews 6:4-6; Matthew 10:33).
Become persuaded that God loves you more than life, therefore “neither death, nor life,
nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come. Nor
height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of
God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38-39).

Grace Reigns by Righteousness

“That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through
righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord” – Romans 5:21
Grace means the bestowal of divine gifts. It also means to be endowed with the presence
of God. Thus it means much more than unmerited favor as many often define it. To be
graced, or endowed with grace means God has given Himself to you, thereby giving you
all that He has.

Romans 5:17 tells us we’ve been given grace in abundance, to enable us reign in
life: “they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall
reign in life by one, Jesus Christ”. It’s not something you work for. It’s a gift given to
you by God, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is
the gift of God” (Ephesians 2:8).
By grace, we received God’s nature of righteousness and were translated into the
Kingdom of His dear Son, where we reign and rule with Him. Thus, we have dominion
over the devil and we live in the righteousness of God that makes it impossible for him to
condemn us. No wonder Paul told Timothy to take advantage of this grace (2Timothy
2:1); it’s the grace to reign, rule and dominate the devil, sickness, disease, the world and
its systems.
The grace of God that brings salvation (wholeness, preservation, health, peace,
deliverance, safety, security, prosperity etc…) has appeared unto all men (Titus 2:11).
The question then is have you received that grace, and embraced God’s gift of
righteousness? If you’re born again, then you’ve received the grace of God and the gift of
righteousness; therefore you can keep reigning in life as a king.

The Christian Is Not A Sinner

For He hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin;
that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. – 2
Corinthians 5:21
Jesus didn’t die to make us sinners; we’re His holy and
sanctified ones; born with His nature of righteousness. The
opening scripture shows us the reason He died and was
made sin: “That we migt be made the righteousness of God in
Him…” Praise God!
The sinner is not just someone who has committed sin. For
example, the fact that someone lied doesn’t make him a liar;
he only becomes a liar when it’s his nature to tell lies. The
fact that a man barked like a dog doesn’t make him a dog.
In the same way, though it’s wrong to sin, you can’t call a
man a sinner just because he sinned. One can only be a
sinner by nature, because sin is a nature.
Sin is the nature of the devil which is passed to every man
that’s born into this world. It’s beyond the mere acts of
lying, stealing, fornication, etc, that people are familiar with.
The nature of sin is responsible for all the sickness,
corruption, decay, and death that exist in the world today.
Thus, for someone to be called a sinner means such a person
has the evil and destructive nature of sin functioning in him.
What’s the cure for that? Righteousness! For the one who
is born again, the nature of sin with which he has borne
by his biological parents has been supplanted with the
nature of God that produces righteousness. He can no
longer be called a sinner even if he does something
wrong. All he needs for doing anything wrong is to ask
and receive forgiveness from the Father. What the sinner
needs is the new nature, which is only occurs when he
makes Jesus Christ Lord of his life.

1John 3:9 and 5:18 say,

Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed
remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of
God…We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not;
but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that
wicked one toucheth him not.
John, in these passages, meant exactly what he said and
said exactly what he meant; so don’t try to reinterpret
him. As you grow in Christ and learn to live in the Word,
you become perfected in your walk in righteousness. It’s
like a baby who is learning to walk and then stumbles and
falls; would that in any sense suggest that the baby isn’t
human, since every human person is supposed to be able
to walk normally? Of course not! That baby is as human
as the adult who can walk and run perfectly without
stumbling. In the same way, a Christian who does
something wrong is still as righteous as the one who
never committed any sin. Therefore don’t let anyone call
you a sinner, for you’re the righteousness of God in Christ
Jesus.

The Righteous Is Dead To Sin

What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid.
How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? – Romans 6:1-2
As one who is born again, you no longer have problem with sin. This is because
according to the Bible the nature of sin has been replaced with the nature of
righteousness. The reason some Christians struggle with sin is their lack of sufficient
information from the Word of God about who they are in Christ. You need to understand
what the Bible means when it says “you’re dead to sin!” It simply means the power of sin
over you is completely destroyed.

That means sin shall not have dominion over you (Romans 6:14), because “He that is
dead is freed from sin” (Romans 6:7). 1Corinthians 15:56 lets us know that the strength
of sin is the law, but then, the very thing that gave life to sin, which is the law has been
abolished by Jesus: “Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of
commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new
man, so making peace; and that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the
cross, having slain the enmity thereby”(Ephesians 2:15-16). Understand this: sin has
rendered powerless! No wonder the Bible says it shall no longer have dominion over you
(1 John 3:9). The Lord Jesus has given us the victory over sin, death and the grave!
(1Corinthians 15:57)
If you ever find yourself struggling with sin, instead of feeling condemned and sorry for
yourself, just meditate on who you are in Christ! Get on your knees before God and ask
Him to forgive you, and then focus your mind and attention on His righteousness!
Become righteousness conscious. Practice doing the will of the Father through the Word.
Remember, the Word of God is the cure for sin. Keep declaring the Word that you’re the
righteous and not a sinner, and before long, your faith will rise like a giant; then sin and
sin-consciousness will have no dominion over you.

Please click here if you aren’t yet born again. God bless you.

Confession
I’m the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus; I’m dead to sin but alive unto God. My
members are yielded to God as instruments of righteousness; therefore sin doesn’t reign
in my body, for the nature of sin has been supplanted with God’s nature of righteousness.

You Must First Be Righteous To

Live Right!

For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God,
and it was counted unto him for righteousness –
Romans 4:3
Some Christians haven’t quite understood the
concept of righteousness. They still look at the
righteousness of God from its result, rather than its
source. As Christians, we received righteousness as a
gift: ‘…they which receive abundance of grace and
of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one,
Jesus Christ’ (Romans 5:17). Right living is the result
of righteousness; right living isn’t righteousness.

There’re many who think that if they could live right,

then they’ll be made the righteousness of God. It’s not
so. You’d have to first believe in Jesus Christ, and
have the gift of righteousness imparted to your spirit
before you’d be able to live right. You could never be
righteous by living right. How could you live out what
you don’t have?
It’s like expecting someone who isn’t born again to
walk in love; that’s not going to work. Two things you
can’t do until you have Christ in you: first, you can’t
walk in love; secondly, you can’t live right. You must
have Christ, whom the Bible says is made unto us
righteousness (1 Corinthians 1:30), to live right. Until
you’re righteous, God doesn’t expect you to produce
righteousness; He’ll be remiss to ask you to do what
you couldn’t do.

That’s the reason He imparts righteousness to you as

a gift, knowing that once you become righteous, you
can live righteously; your life becomes the
manifestation of His goodness, glory, grace and love.
All of these and other divine attributes will be
evident in your life as you live out the Word. Paul
said, ‘I do not frustrate the grace of God: forif
righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in
vain’(Galatians 2:21)

Believe In What He Has Made You

But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy
nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the
praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his
marvellous light – 1 Peter 2:9

Observe our profound description in the verse we just

read: we’re chosen, royal and peculiar; chosen to be the
expression of God’s righteousness, and the manifestation
of His glory in the earth. We’re God’s best, and there’s so
much He has deposited within our spirits to bless the
world with.

In Genesis 12:2, He said to Abram, “…I will make of thee a

great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great;
and thou shalt be a blessing.” You’re the seed of Abraham,
because the Bible says in Galatians 3:29 that “…if ye be
Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed….” Therefore, not
only are you blessed, you’re also a blessing. You carry the
blessing with you. Everything you touch is blessed, as well
as all those who are connected with you.
Contemplate for a moment on your peculiar attributes
and heritage in Christ! The Bible says you’re God’s
workmanship(Ephesians 2:10), His handiwork— crafted
for excellence. You’ve been thoroughly furnished with
everything you need to live victoriously and be an
extraordinary success. So don’t try to be somebody else.
Become satisfied with who you are, and with the fact that
God loves you, and He’s happy to have you.
Furthermore, keep sowing the right seeds—the right
words—into your personality; listen to, and endorse only
words that inspire you, and build your confidence on who
you are in Christ. God is confident and convinced about
what He has made. He knows your true worth and your
abilities. He knows that nothing is impossible with you. He
has placed you over and above sickness, disease, poverty,
failure, death and the devil. He has made you
indestructible, for He has said, “…no weapon fashioned
against you shall prosper” (Isaiah 54:17) and
that, “…nothing shall by any means hurt you” (Luke
10:19).

Believe these truths and live accordingly, so you can

effectively live your best, and be all that God has destined
you to be.

We’re Partakers of His Righteousness

…They which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one,
Jesus Christ – Romans 5:17

When you were born again, you received righteousness as a gift. Righteousness
therefore is no longer something you’re looking for or hoping that you’d have in
the sweet-by-and-by. It’s already been imparted to your spirit as a gift from God
(Romans 5:17). Righteousness is now your nature. Righteousness, however, is
different from right living. Right living is only possible for the one who’s been
made righteous.

Religion teaches that if you would first live right, God would then make you
righteous and accept you. That’s putting the cart before the horse. There’s a great
difference between righteousness and right living, and it’s imperative to put them
in the right context. A sinner, for example, can’t live right, no matter how “good”
his deeds are. Right living is the product of the nature of righteousness imparted to
a man’s spirit at the New Birth. No one can live right until he is first of all
righteous.

God, in Christ Jesus, has made us righteous (2Corinthians 5:21). That’s the good
news; that an ungodly person can become righteous through faith in Christ Jesus.
Anyone who confesses the Lordship of Jesus, believing in his heart that God raised
Him from the dead, according to Romans 10:9-10, receives salvation into his heart!
He’s made righteous. That endorsement of what has already been wrought by Jesus
Christ on the Cross on your behalf automatically brings you into oneness with
God. You didn’t have to struggle to earn it! That’s why Romans 5:1 says,“Therefore
being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

2 Corinthians 5:21 says “For he hath made him to be sin for us who knew no sin that we might
be made the righteousness of God in him.” Now you can live right and please God
everyday as you live by faith in His Word. He has made you a partaker of His
righteous nature.

Be Righteousness-Conscious

“For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of
God in him” – 2 Corinthians 5:21

If you’re born again, not only has God given righteousness as a gift (Romans
5:17), you’re actually also become His righteousness. That means you’ve received
that nature of God that gives you boldness in His presence, and dominion over the
forces of darkness. Therefore, sin is no longer an inhibiting factor, for Jesus
completely dealt with the issue of sin.

The challenge a lot of people face is that even though sin is no longer a factor,
they’ve chosen to be sin-conscious instead of being righteousness-conscious. “Sin-
consciousness” is just as negative in its effect as sin itself. Sin-consciousness
hinders your faith. For example, if a Christian who is sin-conscious makes a
mistake, he’ll keep grinding himself over and over, feeling bad. The more he does
this, the weaker his faith becomes. That he did something wrong is not the
problem; his problem is he is more conscious of sin than of his righteousness.

On the other hand, if the Christian who is righteousness-conscious makes the same
mistakes, his heart will be sorrowful, but he’ll take the Word which says “If we
confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all
unrighteousness”( 1 John 1:9). As soon as he has asked for forgiveness, he receives it
and that’s it. He gets up from there ready to continue walking in faith. Notice that
the two men did the same thing wrong, but it’s their different consciousness that
consequently affect their faith-walk.

Become righteous-conscious, for you’re as righteous as Jesus is! No sin can

separate you from the Father. Therefore don’t let the consciousness of it destroy
your faith. God sees your heart, and knows it’s your heart’s desire to please Him
always.

The Righteousness Of God In You

But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the
prophets; Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them
that believe: for there is no difference – Romans 3:21-22

Righteousness is the nature of God, and that is the nature that was imparted to your
spirit when you were born again. It is the rightness of God in your spirit, which
gives you the ability to do right and to stand in the presence of God without
condemnation, guilt, or inferiority. It’s that which has been wrought in your life
that has brought you into union with Deity, and awoken you to the fatherhood of
God.

Having the life and nature of God in you makes it perfectly natural for you to do
the things of God. You don’t have to struggle to do right. In fact, you’d have to be
tempted to do wrong because you’ve been positioned to do only that which is the
perfect will of God. This is the purpose for which Christ died; the Bible says, “For
he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God
in him” (2 Corinthians 5:21).

Righteousness has become your nature; you’ve been made the righteousness of
God in Christ. How big that is! It means you’re the demonstration or the
quintessence of God’s righteousness. It means you’ve become the perfection of
God. I would to God you’d grasp this truth!

Being the righteousness of God makes you a master over Satan, the demons of
hell, and the circumstances of life. Romans 5:17 says, “…they which receive abundance of
grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.” God is not asking
you to qualify for righteousness; rather, He lets you know He has given you His
righteousness as a gift. Therefore, you can boldly relate with Him without fear,
guilt, or inferiority.

Now, if you can stand in the presence of God by virtue of your righteousness in
Christ Jesus, it means you can also stand in dominion against Satan and his
cohorts, and exercise authority over and against all the negativities of life. Praise
be unto God!
Influenced And Dominated By
His Righteousness

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the
power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth; to
the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the
righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is
written, the just shall live by faith – Romans 1:16-17

The written Word of God is the revelation of God delivered

to us, that we might be filled with the knowledge of His
will, and understand the life of righteousness He’s
brought us into. This means our thinking and perspective
on everything and in every situation, should be from the
standpoint of His righteousness. It should be God’s
interpretation, and not from man’s perspective. When you
have this mind-set, it makes no difference the challenges
you face, what or who offends you, you’ll respond in love,
conscious that you’re the righteousness of God in Christ
Jesus.

Consider the Lord Jesus: He responded in love to His

accusers and wouldn’t rail back at them. He prayed to God
for them, saying, “Father, forgive them, for they know not
what they do.” Can you think like that about someone who
has offended you? That’s how God wants you to respond to
your detractors; not as a mere man but as the
righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. He wants the Gospel
of Christ, in which the righteousness of God is revealed, to
be fully expressed in and through you.
Refuse to allow anything else express itself through you;
not even the pervading culture of your environment. Let
the culture of the Gospel of Jesus Christ be expressed
through you. Have that dominion.

Imagine being in a traffic situation and a careless driver

rams into your car. Would you impulsively rain invectives
at him for his action? That wouldn’t be the Christ-like
response. It’s important that you don’t respond to people
in anger or bitterness. It doesn’t matter what someone
says or does to you, let the righteousness of Christ—His
love-nature influence and dominate your actions.

The New Covenant

31 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the
house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: 32 Not according to the covenant that I
made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the
land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them,
saith the LORD: 33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of
Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and
write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. – Jeremiah
31:31-33
There are many teachings in the Church that are only the lesser truth of God’s Word (or
no truth at all). Today, I want to talk about the “new covenant” doctrine. Some say that
Christians are in the new covenant with God. I disagree!(Please read the whole article
before jumping into conclusion)
What is (biblical) covenant?
It is the conditional promises made to Jews by God. God promised to bless, heal,
protect… etc them, if they kept His law and faithful to Him.
It’s quite clear from our theme verse that the new covenant was God’s promise to the
children of Israel alone, “…I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and
with the house of Judah…” Now here does the Bible ever suggest that Christians are in
any covenant with God (Feel free to provide passages that suggest otherwise in the
comment section below if you found any). In order for Christians to be in “new
covenant” with God, they had to be in an old one with Him. But Christians never had
covenant with God. Only the Jews did:
Exodus 34:27, “…the LORD said unto Moses, Write thou these words: for after the
tenor of these words I have made a covenant WITH THEE and WITH ISRAEL”.
Deuteronomy 5:2-3, “The LORD our God made a covenant with us (Israel) in
Horeb. The LORD MADE NOT THIS COVENANT with our fathers, but WITH
US (Israel), even US, WHO ARE ALL OF US ALIVE THIS DAY”
Amos 3:2 says, “YOU (Israelites) ONLY have I known of all the families of the earth:
therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities”
Christians were born sons of God (John 1:12-13; Galatians 4:6); they weren’t required to
do anything to be God’s sons, they were born that way. Children do not have covenant
with their parents. They were born heirs; no wonder He said, we are His heirs and joint-
heirs with Christ (Romans 8:17). Everything God says about a Christian
is unconditional. He has blessed us unconditionally (Ephesians 1:3), He has given us all
things unconditionally (1 Corinthians 3:21-22); He has healed us unconditionally (1 Peter
2:24); He has loved us unconditionally (Romans 5:8); He has saved us unconditionally
(Ephesians 2:8-9)…
When Jesus came, He lived under the law, “Think not that I am come to destroy the law,
or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil” (Matthew 5:17). He came to
fulfil the law. What does that mean? The Jews couldn’t obey the law, so His first
assignment was to fulfil the law (old covenant) on behalf of the Jews; to redeem them
from the curse of the law, “But when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth
his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, TO REDEEM THEM THAT WERE
UNDER THE LAW (Jews)…” (Galatians 4:4-5).
The significance of the length of days and nights of His temptation (40 days and 40
nights) is that, it was the same amount of days and nights Moses spent on the mount to
receive the law from God (Exodus 24:18; 34:28). In other words, just like Moses was the
carrier of the law from God to them, Jesus had to carry upon Himself the guilt of the
children of Israel who couldn’t obey the law. Remember, Jesus wasn’t tempted for His
own sake; He didn’t have to come at all. He came for the lost! Not for Himself. So
everything He did was for the lost souls. He was tempted for the Jews and successfully
overcame the temptation for them.

When they sinned against God, Moses interceded for them for another 40 days and 40
nights (Deuteronomy 9:25-26; 10:10); but the prayer of intercession wasn’t enough; they
had to have a new covenant altogether because they’ll sin again. That’s where Jesus
comes in; not to intercede but to blot out the old covenant (John 1:17).

Jesus, not only came to redeem them from the law but also to prove that He is indeed the
perfect sacrifice to be offered for the new covenant, “14 How much more shall the blood
of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge
your (Jews) conscience from dead works to serve the living God?…18 Where
upon neither the first testament was dedicated without blood. 19 For when Moses had
spoken every precept to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of calves
and of goats, with water, and scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book,
and all the people, 20 Saying, This is the blood of the testament which God hath
enjoined unto you. 21 Moreover he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle, and all
the vessels of the ministry. 22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood;
and without shedding of blood is no remission”(Hebrews 9:14, 18-22).
Who was Paul talking to here? The Jews (Hebrews), not Christians! Jesus had to prove
Himself to be the perfect, spotless sacrifice by keeping the law. He was sinless. The law
couldn’t condemn Him of any guilt. He did this for the Jews. This is why, at the
beginning of His ministry, He always said He was sent to the lost sheep of the house of
Israel (Matthew 15:24) and only instructed His disciples to go and preach to the Jews
(Matthew 10:5-6).

“11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. 12 But he
that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf
coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth
the sheep. 13 The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the
sheep. 14 I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. 15 As
the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the
sheep” (John 10:11-15)
He said, “…the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep…I lay down my life for the
sheep”. Which sheep? The Jews! The new covenant was God’s promise to Israel, keep
that in mind! In the old covenant, they were commended to obey the law but in the new
covenant, they were told to believe in Jesus (John 6:28-29; 8:24; 1:17). Notice what I
said, “to believe in Jesus”; not “to believe in His sacrificial death”. These are two
different things. To believe in Him means to believe that He came to fulfil the law on
their behalf. He obeyed the law for them:
John 6:28 – Then said they (Jews) unto him, what shall we do, that we might work the
works of God? 29 Jesus answered and said unto them (Jews), this is the work of God
that YE BELIEVE ON HIM whom he hath sent.
John 8:24 – I said therefore unto you (Jews) that ye (Jews)shall die in your sins: for IF
YE BELIEVE NOT that I am he,ye shall die in your sins.
Notice, He didn’t say anything about His death in these passages. The reason for that is,
they first had to be redeemed from the guilt or the curse of the law through His
obedience. His blood was shed, only, to ratify the new covenant (Hebrews 9:22). In the
old covenant, before they killed the sin sacrifice (lamb or bullock), the high priest first
had to lay his hands on another sacrifice (goat) and confessed the sins of the people, and
sent it in the wilderness (Leviticus 16:21). The same way, Jesus was first their scape goat
before being their sacrificial lamb. In other words, their guilt was first laid upon Jesus;
this happened when John the Baptist laid his hand on Him at His baptism. And after that,
the Bible records that Jesus was led into the wilderness and was tempted by the devil.
That was the time when He put upon Himself to fulfil the law by not giving in on any
temptation the devil threw at Him, for the Jews. So Jesus was both their scape
goat and sacrificial lamb.
However, the new covenant was not meant to be the replacement of the old covenant.
There is something bigger than the covenant (testament) itself – It’s the fellowship,
oneness with God (1 Corinthians 6:17; Ephesians 5:30…)! The law couldn’t make this
possible, not because it didn’t have the power to (Romans 7:14) but they couldn’t obey it.
The law was perfect but they related to it as something they had to obey simply because
God said so; rather than relating to it being the source of their life (Deuteronomy 32:46-
47).
The new covenant was a promise, not the ultimate plan. When you’re born again, you’re
not in covenant with God. You are His heir, there’s no more promises. He gave you
everything you’ll ever need or want unconditionally.

Hebrews 8:6 – “…by how much also he (Jesus) is the mediator of a better
covenant (new covenant), which was established upon better promises”.

Better promises? This is proof positive that the new covenant was not God’s main plan
because eternal life is what God had in mind and it’s not a promise. 1 John 5:11, 13
says, “11…this is the record, that God HATH GIVEN to us eternal life, and this life is
in his Son…13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the
Son of God; that ye may know that YE HAVE ETERNAL LIFE, and that ye may
believe on the name of the Son of God.”
The new covenant is their doorway or passport, if you may, to eternal life, not the main
thing. This is why Jesus said, “I AM THE DOOR: by me if any man enter in, he shall
be saved…” (John 10:9). Again, contextually, “any man” here refers to the Jews because
He only talks about the Gentiles in verse 16 where He referred to them as the “other
sheep”; and they didn’t need to go through the door. They were born in the city of
God: “He came unto his own (Jews) and his own received him not. 12 But as many
as (Gentiles) received him, TO THEM (Gentiles) GAVE HE POWER to become the
sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: 13 Which were born, not of blood,
nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God” (John 1:11:13). See? The
Gentiles didn’t go through the door (using ‘the passport’, new covenant). They were born
in Zion (Hebrews 12:22).
Jesus fulfilled (put to an end to) the law for them and Paul letting them know about this
said, “1 Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be
saved. 2 For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to
knowledge. 3 For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to
establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the
righteousness of God. 4 For CHRIST IS THE END OF THE LAW for righteousness
to everyone that believeth” (Romans 10:1-4)
And, “25 For I would not, brethren (Jews), that ye should be ignorant of this mystery,
lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel,
until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in. 26 And so ALL ISRAEL shall be saved: as
it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away
ungodliness from JACOB: 27 For THIS IS MY COVENANT UNTO THEM (Israel),
when I SHALL TAKE AWAY THEIR SINS” (Romans 11:25-27).
See? The (new) covenant is the “taking away their (Jews) sins”. How? By fulfilling the
Law for them. All Israel shall be saved; meaning, as far as God is concerned what Jesus
did for them had saved them all; but do they accept it? Without accepting Him as the
Messiah, their Savior, they still aren’t saved:
John 8:22 – Then said the Jews…24 I said therefore unto you(Jews), that ye shall die in
your sins: for IF YE BELIEVE NOT THAT I AM HE (the Messiah), ye shall die in
your sins.
Conclusion

So, the new covenant was God’s promise to the Jews (Jeremiah 31:31-33); not to
Christians or anyone else for that matter, and it’s not God’s ultimate plan for the Jews
either, the gift of eternal life is. Eternal life is a gift (Romans 6:23) and it’s not a promise
(1 John 5:11, 13). It’s not about what you did, do or will do but what has been done for
you. It’s a free and unconditional gift!

The new covenant was only meant to be the doorway, path or passport to eternal life for
the Jews who were under the old covenant. It’s a testament (document) that approves
their redemption from the curse of the law (old covenant). With it, they can pass through
the door (Jesus, the mediator of the new covenant) to enter into God’s presence without
any guilt of the law because Jesus bore and paid for their guilt. It frees them from the
curse of the law (the old covenant). That’s all what the new covenant is about and that’s
the reason why they were the only people Jesus reached at the beginning of His ministry.
Jesus only told His disciples to reach to the Gentiles after His resurrection (Matthew
28:19-20; Mark 16:15) because He promised to bring them in (other sheep – John 10:16).
He didn’t say they’ll go through the door (way) either. (This is why I keep telling people,
Jesus didn’t die for Christians.)

I know that Jesus said, “I am the way…no man come to the Father but by me” (John
14:6). Yes, you can use this to generalize everyone (Jews and Gentiles) but that’s the
lesser truth. The greater truth is, contextually, He was referring to the Jews! Christians
didn’t come to the Father; they were born of the Father. This is a problem with some
Christians; they try to believe and apply everything they read in the Bible in their
Christian walk, especially when it’s what they experience in life.

Christians are the fruits of His resurrection; they are not people He died for (2
Corinthians 5:17) since they have no past. Their life started at the new birth. The person
He died for (Romans 5:8) is no more, the “old sinner you” doesn’t exist anymore (I really
hope every Christian would be able to grasp this truth):

Romans 6:4 – Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that LIKE AS
Christ was raised up from the dead BY THE GLORY of the Father, EVEN SO
WE (Christians) ALSO should walk in NEWNESS OF LIFE. 5 For if WE HAVE
BEEN PLANTED together IN THE LIKENESS OF HIS DEATH, WE SHALL BE
ALSO IN THE LIKENESS OF HIS RESURRECTION: 6 Knowing this, that our old
man (our ‘unsaved’ soul) is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed,
that henceforth we should not serve sin. 7 For he that is dead is FREED FROM SIN.
8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him: 9 Knowing
that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion
over him. 10 For in that he died, he died unto sin ONCE: but in that he liveth, he liveth
unto God. 11 LIKEWISE RECKON YE also yourselves TO BE DEAD INDEED
UNTO SIN, BUT ALIVE UNTO GOD through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Simply put. Paul is saying, you are no more sinners. He said, just like Jesus died
unto sin once; reckon yourself to be dead indeed unto sin once; in other words, sin is
no longer a factor; you’ve been dead to it. You can’t kill a dead man, he doesn’t
exist anymore (Please read Romans 6:14 and 1 John 3:9). Please meditate on this
passage (Romans 6:4-11); let it sink into you

Righteousness Makes You Blameless

And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your
mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled in the body
of his flesh through death, to present you holy and
unblameable and unreproveable in his sight.– Col 1:21-22
Did you know that as a child of God you’re unblameable? It
doesn’t matter who is pointing fingers at you, God says
you’re unblameable! This is as a result of His righteousness
that you received. You may say, “But I’ve made mistakes”.
Yes you might have, but you’re unblameable in God’s sight
because Jesus took responsibility for all the mistakes you’d
ever made. “To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the
world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto
them…”(2Cor 5:19)
The Bible says that God was in Christ, reconciling the
world-sinner unto Himself, not imputing their trespasses
unto them (2Corinthians 5:19); meaning He’s not holding
their sins against them, because Jesus paid the full penalty
for their sins: “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he
was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace
was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed” (Isaiah
53:5).

Now, if the sinner is not being held accountable for his sins
because of the salvation consummated by Jesus on behalf of
mankind, what about you? Our opening scripture says you
that were hitherto alienated from the life of God has now
been reconciled and brought into a living relationship with
the Father through Christ. However, the latter part lets us
know that the reason for the reconciliation is to present you
holy and unblameable and unreproveable before God.

Christ has qualified you to stand in the presence of God,

without inferiority, guilt or condemnation. As far as God is
concerned, you’re without blemish and free from all
accusations; you’re holy, blameless and beyond reproach.
Men may blame you, scorn you for your errors and look at
you as unholy, but God says, you’re holy, flawless, perfect
and impossible to fault in His sight!

This is the result of His righteousness in you – His rightness,

perfection, precision and correctness in your life. Yes, even if
you sin, you are still unblameable because God never looks
at you for the wrong things you do but for His righteousness
in you (1John 3:9). The Bible says that He doesn’t look at
sin (Habakkuk 1:13). The reason for God telling us not to sin
is because: 1) It is not our nature to sin. 2) Sin destroys our
faith; meaning we are allowing the devil to have control over
us. 3) Sin keeps us away from God.
Believe this; God is not in business to condemn people for
their sins as many believe. It’s wrong for Him to be so when
He made the blood of Jesus available to wash away their
sins. All He’s saying today is, come on everybody; you don’t
need to sin anymore because Jesus has paid the full penalty
for your sins. Accept what He did for you.
This article might be too much for some people (religious
ones) but it’s the truth! As Christians, we are not sinners
saved by grace. The Bible says, we are brand new species
that never existed before; ones who have no past (2
Corinthians 5:17). If we have no past then Jesus actually
didn’t die for us. You were born sin-free when you were born
again. Your new life in God didn’t start at the death of Jesus
but at His resurrection. We are not serving the Jesus who
died on the cross for the Bible says He was made sin, He was
a curse (2 Corinthians 5:19; Galatians 3:13); but the risen
One. Hallelujah!

Romans 4:25 says, “Who (Jesus) was delivered for our

offences, and was raised again for our justification.” This
means that He died for our sins (when we weresinners –
Romans 5:8); but He didn’t stop there. His death would have
been enough to save the world but He did something better
than that. By His resurrection, we are declared ‘not
guilty’ from any sin because it represents the defeat of Satan
and sins and He gave us the victory (1 Corinthians 15:54-57).
All the devil and his cohorts do today is accusing us for the
sins we commit but the Bible says in 1John 2:1, “My little
children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if
any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus
Christ the righteous”
Two things to notice in 2 John 2:1
1) He addresses little children; meaning only them
(Christians who are carnally minded/spiritual babes) sin.
Notice, he didn’t say, “when” but “if” any man sin; which
means he doesn’t expect us to sin (1John 3:9).
2) This verse does not imply that Jesus begs the Father to
forgive our sins (as many believe) but that He stands as our
lawyer from the accusations of Satan. It’s actually the Father
who appointed Him to defend us; not from the Father’s
judgment but from Satan’s accusations (Rev 12:10-11).
Here’s how God’s word describes us (notice the tenses):
And we know that all things work together for good to them that
love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be
conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn
among many brethren (not slaves). Moreover whom he did
predestinate, themhe also called: and whom he called, them he
also JUSTIFIED: and whom HE JUSTIFIED, them HE ALSO
GLORIFIED. (Romans 8:28-30)
God has not only declared us ‘not guilty’but He also has
glorified us. That’s the Gospel! Praise God! Peter reiterates
this truth when he said, “Of which salvation the prophets
have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the
grace that should come unto you: Searching what, or what
manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did
signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ,
and the glory that should follow.” (1 Peter 1:10-11). This
glory has come. Hallelujah!
