Import sidetracks to Petrel

Import sidetracks: additions to Petrel HelpManual

This document clarifies in more detail the procedure how to

import sidetrack deviation files to Petrel.

Sidetracks can be imported into Petrel, such that the branch

information is set automatically. This document explains in
detail the procedure.
Requirements for Petrel 2009.2

-deviation file should only contain one header line per well
-header should be described as MainWell%Sidetrack
-deviation data should contain X, Y and TVD data, MD NOT
required
-data should include/start with a physical intersection with the
main well, that means, sidetrack data should include at least
one row with X, Y and TVD data that defines a point which is on
or close to the main well path (close: less that about 7 units)
-filenames do not matter
Procedure: import sidetracks

-RMB on Wells folder

-choose File of type: “Multiple well paths/deviation”
-select the file(s) containing the sidetrack (the parent well
should either be in the project already, or in the datafile itself)
-choose X, Y, TVD as method and set other settings
-click OK / OK for all
 main hole (from surface) sidetrack hole (from KOP)
