1) To remind the masses of the negative consequences that arise because of wastes e.g accidents, death,
irritating odor (bad smell), offensive eye sight and soil degradation especially from polyethene
(Kaveera) and used plastics, breeding ground for vectors and stray animals, diseases and the high cost
associated with treating the diseases other than preventive approaches.
2) To open the publics eyes to the positive opportunities, importance, advantages and uses of wastes e.g.
earning from waste collection, recycling and reuse businesses i.e organic fertilizers, designer crafts,
waste plastics like used bottles, jerrycans basins and metal (scrap) etc.
3) To practically engage in proper waste management (collection, disposal and use) as we clean up the
health center premises.
4) To enable the participants engaged in the exercise e.g Ntegeka Members have a fun day out
experience as they appreciate the essence of self-help and voluntary action in community
development.
5) To remind ourselves and everyone that we are collectively the solution to community problems like
environmental degradation, hygiene and sanitation challenges (i.e Wastes)
For sustainability, Ntegeka Initiatives provided the health center with (6) small plastic bins and (2) large
plastic bins along with labels and sign to notify the public on where to throw trash.
6 Small Bins include:
2x Green- organic waste
2x Blue- Recyclable
2x Yellow (jerrycan)- other
2 Large Bins include:
1x Green- organic waste
1x Blue- Recyclable
