1. A thin lamina has the shape of a triangle with vertices at (0,0), (2,0), and (2,4).

The
density function associated with the lamina has equation 𝜌(𝑥, 𝑦) = 4𝑥 − 2𝑦 + 2. Find
the mass and center of mass of the lamina (see Figure 4.4)

(2,4)

(2,0)

Penyelesaian :

The region 𝑄 associated with the lamina may be described by the inequalities.

0 ≤ 𝑥 ≤ 2, 0 ≤ 𝑦 ≤ 2𝑥.

Thus, by Definition 4,
2 2𝑥
𝑀 = ∬𝑄 (4𝑥 + 2𝑦 + 2)𝑑𝐴 = ∫0 ∫0 (4𝑥 + 2𝑦 + 2)𝑑𝑦𝑑𝑥

2 𝑦 = 2𝑥
= ∫0 {[4𝑥𝑦 + 𝑦 2 + 2𝑦] } 𝑑𝑥
𝑦=𝐶
2
= ∫0 (4𝑥 2 + 2𝑥𝑦 + 2𝑥) 𝑑𝑦 𝑑𝑥

2
= [4𝑥 3 + 2𝑥 2 ]
0
= 40
2 2𝑥
𝑀𝑦 = ∬𝑄 𝑥(4𝑥 + 2𝑦 + 2) 𝑑𝐴 = ∫0 ∫0 (4𝑥 2 + 2𝑥𝑦 + 2𝑥) 𝑑𝑦 𝑑𝑥

2 2 𝑦 = 2𝑥
= ∫0 {[2𝑥𝑦 2 + 3 𝑦 3 + 𝑦 2 ] } 𝑑𝑥
𝑦=0
2 40
= ∫0 ( 3 𝑥 3 + 4𝑥 2 ) 𝑑𝑥
10 4 2
= [ 3 𝑥4 + 3 𝑥3]

Thus,
176
𝑀𝑦 ( ) 22
3
𝑥̅ = = = 15
𝑀 40

and
192
𝑀𝑥 ( ) 8
3
𝑦̅ = = =5
𝑀 40

22 8
The center of the mass is therefore (𝑥̅ , 𝑦̅) = 15 , 5.
