Task 1 (M6 LA4)

There are several examples of inviting someone for a certain event. In inviting someone
language feature commonly used is using Modal Auxiliary such as : Would you ….? , Would
you like …… ?

There are formal and informal invitations. We can find samples of formal invitation in video 1,
and informal invitation in video 2.

There are two responses in invitation : accept and decline.

Woman : Jerry do you have plans for the weekend?

Man : I don’t have anything scheduled yet

Woman : It’s Mary’s birthday this Saturday and we’ve decided to a throw a party for her

Man : That’s fantastic! Where will the party be?

Woman : It’s going to be a pool party at Jay’s apartment. You must come by 7

Man : A pool party? That sounds interesting! What about the dress code?

Woman : Well, don’t forget to bring your swimsuit along

Man : We’ll have a great time then. See you at the party!

Invitation to dinner

Woman : Would you and your wife be free next Saturday night?

Man : I’ll have to check it with my wife. Do you have something planned?

Woman : Well, Samantha and I would like to have you for dinner if you’re free

Man : It would be a pleasure, but I think I should make sure that Vanessa is free

Woman : Maybe you can call her and find out

Man : Yes, I’ll call her and tell you. I think she’ll be free

Man : Alright. I think we’ll make it. See you on Saturday

Invitation to an office party

Woman 1 : Hey, Luna, what are you doing this weekend?

Woman 2 : I don’t have any major plans

Woman 1 : the boss is throwing a party for the success of our new website. It crossed 20.000
visitors a day

Woman 2 : Really? Your boss is cool. Where will it be?
