A twenty-one-year-old becomes smoking addict due to peer

pressure.

Peer pressure is something which everyone faces growing up in this society.

Some people tend to fight back with it, some become victim of this dilemma.
Similar is the story of this young guy only twenty-one years old, soon to
become a dentist.
Ragging is a culture which has always prevailed in the universities. No matter
how hard the university administration tries to prevent it, ragging just tends to
happen. Seniors who think highly of themselves make a group and start
making fun of the sophomore. They gather around students and make them do
things forcefully. If a student does not obey them, they start harassing. To
avoid fight, students do whatever the seniors tell them.
This guy was gathered by a group of seniors and forced him to smoke a
cigarette with them. He told them that he does not smoke but they forced
him. They made fun of him and started harassing him. One of the seniors had
put his cigarette in the mouth of this guy and forced him to have a puff even
though he was unwilling to smoke. They told him that they would only let him
go on one condition; that was to smoke a cigarette. After a while, the boy
couldn’t help himself and he had a puff to get free from those seniors. Even
though the seniors let him go at that time, they started to do this on daily
basis. Whenever they say him, they made him smoke a cigarette.
A few days passed and he started smoking occasionally with them. To avoid
harassment, he would have a few puff willingly. Later it became a habit of his.
He didn’t know that he had become an addict and he started smoking
regularly. He started to smoke one pack a day. After realizing that he had
become an addict, he tried to quit smoking but it was impossible for him.
Addiction is like an uncalled guest. This guest when becomes a part of his
house is unknown to a person.
We fail to understand that addiction is something that a person does not
become used to on purpose sometimes things like peer pressure lead to it.
Our society as a whole need to understand the effects of such sensitive issues
which are laughed of in the name humor and fun.
