THE EFFECTIVE USE OF ALTERNATIVE SALTWATER- INDUCED ENERGY

(A.S.I.N.) AS AN ALTERNATIVE SOURCE OF ELECTRICITY FOR

CHARGING RECHARGEABLE DEVICES

ABSTRACT

This study was conducted to ascertain if saltwater could be used to

generate electricity in response to charging devices such as mobile phones. The

researchers have contrived product, namely Alternative Saltwater- Induced

eNergy or A.S.I.N. that uses saltwater (Sodium Chloride and Dihydrogen

Monoxide) and abides the condensed chemical concept of an Electrolytic Cell

and Electrochemical Cell. The researchers then tested by how much quantity of

salt must be diluted on a 1 liter water to maximize the efficiency of the concocted

product. The elicited results were documented on a table. It was observed that

the amount of the salt that must be diluted in 1 liter of water should be at least

four table spoons to acquire the greatest efficiency of A.S.I.N. In the end, the

researchers have concluded that saltwater could be used to generate electricity

in response to the charging of rechargeable devices such as mobile phones that

everyone has.

INTRODUCTION

Electricity is one among the necessities of any human living in order to

attain his/her daily needs. However, as the years gone by, the use of generated

electricity has been extensive throughout the world and has brought a drastic

conundrum to our environmental ecosystems such as the scarcity of energy

supply, drilling for natural gas or even mining to acquire coal just to meet the

excessive demands of human toward electrical energy. On the perspectives of

the researchers, the entire human race could ascertain an approach to a

substitute source of electricity in response to the mitigation of the effects brought

about to our environment. Moreover, the researchers thought that the utilization

of saltwater could be used as an alternative generator of electricity. This is due to

the fact that the Earth has been covered by at least 1.4 billion cubic kilometers or

97.5 percent of the saltwater on its surface. Imagine what we could do with this

quantity to accommodate the excessive demands of the entire human race in

relation to electrical energy without bringing pernicious impacts to our natural

habitat. Since, the study is concerned with the efficacy of saltwater to produce

electricity; the researchers have concocted a product that uses saline solution to

generate power that charges low voltage rechargeable devices such as mobile

phones. Other than the students and the school teachers, this research is

recommended for future researchers that are also concerned with the same

interest. The researchers wanted to encourage other people especially the youth,

to be innovators to ignite their interest in Science and Technology. The

researches have thought that this is where the real challenge and potential lie.
METHODOLOGY

The research conducted by the researchers elicits a series of experiments

that can be therefore distinguished as an experimental research. The

researchers have chosen the experimental research design; since, its concern is

to get a holistic approach and conduct an experiment regarding the relationship

among variables. The method allows researchers to interpret the significance of

findings in the study. The methods used in this research are ethical and follows

certain guidelines.

Moreover, the researchers have contrived a device (A.S.I.N.). In order to

manufacture this product, the researchers have used, 1 metal and 1 air

electrode. The metal electrode that has been used in this research was

Aluminum instead of Copper; since, the researchers supposed that it will not

tarnish nor thaw in the saline solution in the long term of usage unlike copper.

Furthermore, to collect the Oxygen (O2) presented in air that will be used

as one of the electrolytes, the researchers have used activated charcoal and
then made it into granules and also added several layers of fine filter sheet. This

will prevent the activated carbon from externalizing and later mixing on the saline

solution.

Subsequently, the researchers have also used the contrived device, itself,

in order to answer the problems proposed by the researchers on this study. The

researchers measured the amount of salt that must be dissolved in 1 liter water.

2 tablespoons 3 tablespoons 4 tablespoons 5 tablespoons

The researchers then documented the data acquired on a table given

below:

Amount of Salt (tbsp.) Time Duration Taken (Hours)

2 tbsp.

3 tbsp.

4 tbsp.

5 tbsp.
RESULTS AND DISCUSSIONS

The table shows the relationship of the amount of salt dissolved in a 1 liter

of water and the time duration spent to fully charge a low voltage rechargeable

device; in the case of this study, the researchers used a mobile phone.

Amount of Salt (tbsp.) Time Duration Taken (H:M:S)

2 tbsp. 4 h: 16 m: 37 s

3 tbsp. 3 h: 48 m: 03 s

4 tbsp. 3 h: 10 m: 54 s

5 tbsp. 3 h: 10 m: 22 s

The table elicits the different time duration to fully charge a mobile phone

in response to the amount of salt diluted in a liter of water. It has been observed

by the researchers that the amount of salt (Sodium Chloride) to be used must be

at least 4 tablespoons.

The researchers did not continue further experimentation after testing 5

tablespoons since, it already gave nearly equal time duration from the quantity- 4

table spoons. Therefore, the researchers supposed that this is the quantity that

will lead the product on its optimal efficiency.

CONCLUSIONS

Upon examination done with the product, the researchers concluded that

saltwater could generate electrical energy in order to charge any low voltage

rechargeable devices such as mobile phones (≤5V). Moreover, the researchers

concluded that this could also be used for high voltage (>5V), however, it must

be done on a larger scale.
