Article Title:
Multimodal, Multiliteracies: Texts and Literacies for the 21st Century
by Radha Iyer and Carmen Luke (Queensland University of Technology, Australia)

Response Strategy: 1

In the previous century, the literacy focused on a print saturated system, but it changes in the
21st century it became multimodal semiotic system. There are, various design for learning proposed
by the pedagogical approaches of multiliteracies in line with this is the changes from print based to a
techno-oriented philosophy of teaching which has the same aim, to give the satisfaction of the
students while learning. Also, this research contains idea about One literacy leads to another where
they give example about the twenty-eight grade one student who innovated existing book to digital
text book where they noticed that it is more imaginative to have a digital text book because it captures
the attention of the students. Today’s students have complex requirements of the literacy beyond the
skills of reading and writing they are facing challenges in this era because there are enormous online
applications that captures their attention which lead them to forget their main goal which is to study
and conduct a research based on their assignments. This prove that teaching and learning occurs
within a multilingual, multicultural context and teachers requires a lot of effort to successful use
multimodal and multiliteracies in classroom.
The response strategy that I would like to use in this context is “React”. Upon reading this
article the authors captured my attention because they elaborate all the information that they are
trying to put in the mind of the readers properly, they executed the history of teaching from various
time. What I like about this article is the fact that in this information era where the continuous changes
in the industry is a must, the authors stated that in the educational field it is a must to adopt to this
changes to give the satisfactions and needs of every students in the classroom because as time goes
by the information that the students need to know and understand will become broader and broader.

The content of this article make sense in a way that it will give you a realization about how
important the technology is in our daily lives especially in the education because it helps the students
have the right to access with the enormous information which help them attain and obtain their goal
before they enter in the school, to access information and to learn.
