Part 1: After checking the Unit 1 Topic 2: Modal Verbs, write 1 sentence using each one of the
modal verbs regarding your duties and rights at home: can – could – may - must - should - ought to
– have to – need to- had better - would.

you were doing a few hours ago and 5 things you were not:

Part 3: Write a text about how you imagine your city in fifity years. Use at least two pictures related
to your text. You should write four paragraphs:

Write your own text about how you imagine your city will be in fifty years and send it
in the forum.

First, I have to let you know that my hometown is Tunja, I am not from Bogota city originally. But
this last one has become in my place, my city and home the last years. So I would like to imagine
that Bogota will be a better place to live in some years. I would like to be positive but I have to
realistic because there are some factors like the corruption and lack of funds investing that plays
against the progress and the evolution of our society and Colombian cities. So, it will be necessary
to cut them off if we expect to have a better future. Day by day the technology is moving forward,
nowadays we are already using technology or artifacts that few years ago we couldn’t even
imagine. However technology is not cheap and it requires. But I think the main factor that we have
to consider and to change in order to evolve and to move forward is ourselves as citizens, as
people who elect wisely their leads and protect the public environment. It is necessary to stop
accepting people who get around law and to look for the way we might work something out so
that everyone could have better options.

One of things that came up to your mind when you think about the future could be flying cars,
jetpacks or new transportation ways in general. But i can be naive, I don’t expect this
overoptimistic stuff in Bogota. I would be happy if the Mayor of Bogota on 2070 will be honest,

and she or he may use the public funds to improve the infrastructure and roads through the city.
And most important, I expect to see in 50 years that Bogota has efficient public transportation
service available for every citizen. Bogota people deserve to have better quality of life starting by a
decent and affordable system to get to their homes and jobs everyday fast and safe. It would be
awesome if public transportation and vehicles in general could be hundred per cent ecofriendly. I
guess this factor is pretty important for health and economy of Bogota people.

Health in Colombia is not a service that everyone can access easily now, because the companies
on charge to provide this service or to warrant people can receive a quality attention are corrupts
or these don’t have an efficient infrastructure to be enough to get by. So, when I think about the
health service that I desire it will be available in Bogota within 50 years I expect that the doctors
and nurses still being humans, because I think a human can understand what human can feel and
their suffering. However, I expect these future doctors will have new and more effective ways to
assist the patients for an affordable amount obviously. They may use forward thinking machines to
detect illness symptoms and to treat them. I think in some advanced scaners or nano sensors that
can detect the different changes in human body to inform and determine the better way that the
patient can be attended.

About the economy I think Colombia has several ways to improve their economy as long as their
leaders will be honest and get the enough skills to manage and invest the funds in the people
development, to create fair job opportunities, to offer quality education. However the progress
depends on the people and their desire to be more than the ones that struggle working for few
cents in international companies which are not interested in the internal grow up, because they
look for the expansion and enrichment ways doesn't matter whatever it takes. I imagine that
Bogota and Colombian people in general within 50 years could be cleverer and tactical to use, to
process and to export their raw material. Because it is necessary to cut off with the habit of giving
our lands and resources for free.
