Egan Bernal was crowned champion of the Tour de France this Sunday in
Paris.
The cyclist of the Ineos team had already reached glory early this Saturday,
despite finishing fourth on that day's stage. However, the overall winner is
chosen based on calculations of the amount of time it takes to complete each
stage, and that was enough for the young Zipaquirá native to reach the top of
the competition.
“I can't understand what's going on. I'll need a few days, it's unbelievable. It
will take me a few days to realize what I've achieved,"; Egan Bernal said when
he noticed that he had become champion of the Tour de France on Saturday
It was an exciting conclusion to one of the most contested races in the recent
history of the Tour, with Egan Bernal's victory in doubt until the penultimate
stage in the Alps on Saturday.

Bernal replaces as champion his teammate Geraint Thomas, who finished


second, one minute and 11 seconds later, breaking a series of four
consecutive British victories in the most famous cycling race.
