FLOOR DIFFUSERS
In conventional overhead systems, conditioned supply air is discharged horizontally at high level and high velocity. The air jet induces room air mixing
with and conditioning the entire volume of air in the room. This results in a very uniform temperature from floor to ceiling with an even distribution of
contaminants.
In displacement ventilation systems, conditioned supply air is discharged at low velocity, typically at floor height. The low velocity air spreads in a layer
between one and five inches thick across the floor. Upon encountering a heat source, a portion o the air is heated and rises, displacing heat and
contaminants upwards. The lighter warm air collects near the ceiling as it is displaced by the cool supply air. The warm air is exhausted from the high
level return, carrying with it pollutants, effectively removing them from the space.
An underfloor air distribution system with floor diffusers discharges the conditioned supply air at high velocity at floor level. The discharge is vertical
swirling pattern which rapidly induces the room air giving very fast velocity reduction in the air jet. Underfloor air distribution system creates a general
upward flow of air in the space, which working with the natural buoyancy of room air warmed by the heat loads, allow the effective removal of heat,
pollutants and adors. In a properly designed underfloor air distribution system, the conditioned supply air discharged from a floor diffuser will be fully
mixed with the room air within 2 meters above the floor, forming a stratification layer at this point, with warmer air at high level and conditioned air at low
level in the occupant zone. This creates a layer of higher contaminant concentration in the upper zone. The diffusers are installed in the floor tiles of the
conventional raised floor system. The floor tiles are interchangeable and air distribution can be customized as required. Since the conditioned air is
supplied directly into the occupant zone, supply air temperature must be higher than conventional mixing system to avoid a cold thermal sensation due
to the low surface temperature of the raised floor. By introducing the air at slightly warmer supply air temperatures and rapidly mixing with room air, a
high level of thermal comfort can be achieved.

• The basket in FLD serves as a guide vane, volume control damper and duct tray.
• The guide vane in the basket creates a swirl air pattern, hence increases induction ratio.
• The basket and diffuser core can be lifted up from the floor surface to performance adjustment on the blades or dispose the dust on the basket or dust tray.
The under floor supply air flows into the basket and distributed through the air slots into the room. High turbulence air jets create an intensive induction effect
with rapid drop in velocity. Entrainment is accomplished within the 2 meters occupied zone. This causes a fast equalization of supply air temperature and room
air temperature.
The recommended location for FLD is minimum 1.5m from seating for 200mm FLD and 2.0m from seating for 250mm FLD.
