1.1OBJECTIVE
The Online Shopping System (OSS) is a web-based application. The purpose of the application
is to automate and facilitate the whole process of shopping. This application fixes the limitation
and problems of paper based processes. The main goal to increase the quantity of sales by
making the new technology of web pages design more attractive and to search a lot of customers
and company to their location.
The objective of the project is to make an application to purchase items in an existing shop. In
order to build such an application complete web support need to be provided. A complete and
efficient web application which can provide the online shopping experience is the basic objective
of the project. The web application can be implemented in PHP. The main Objective are:

1) To shop wile in the comfort of your own home, without having to step out of the door
2) To be able to easily save money and compare prices from website to website
3) Online resellers tent to sell at a lower price due to less overhead expenses

1.2 INTRODUCTION
This project is a web based shopping system for an existing shop. The project Online shopping is
the process whereby consumers directly buy goods or services from a seller in real-time, without
an intermediary service, over the Internet. It is a form of electronic commerce. This project is an
attempt to provide the advantages of online shopping to customers of a real shop. It helps buying
the products in the shop anywhere through internet by using an android device. Thus the
customer will get the service of online shopping and home delivery from his favorite shop.
Online shopping is a great way to compare what you are looking for to what you want. You can
compare price, quality, view products you did not know were there and share that information
with friends.

1.3 MODULES OF THE SYSTEM

The system after careful analysis has been identified to be presented with the following modules
and roles. The modules involved are:
1. Administrator
2. Users

2
1.3.1 ADMINISTRATOR:
The administrator is the super user of this application. Only admin have access into this admin
page. Admin may be the owner of the shop. The administrator has all the information about all
the users and about all products. Admin perform following tasks:
MANAGE USER: The administrator can add user, delete user, view user and block user.
MANAGE PRODUCTS: The administrator can add product, delete product and view product.

1.3.2 USERS
A new user will have to register in the system by providing essential details in order to view the
products in the system. The admin must accept a new user by unblocking him.
 Login: A user must login with his user name and password to the system after
registration.
 View Products: User can view the list of products based on their names after successful
login. A detailed description of a particular product with product name, products details,
product image, price can be viewed by users.
 Search Product: Users can search for a particular product in the list by name.
 Add to cart: The user can add the desired product into his cart by clicking add to cart
option on the product. He can view his cart by clicking on the cart button. All products
added by cart can be viewed in the cart. User can remove an item from the cart by
clicking remove.

1.4 WHAT IS SHOPPING CART SYSTEM

Online shopping is a form of electronic shopping store where the buyer is directly online to the
seller’s computer usually via the internet. There is no intermediary service. The sale and
purchase transaction is completed electronically and interactively in real-time.
The development of this new system contains the following activities, which try to develop on-
line application by keeping the entire process in the view of database integration approach. User
gets its eamil id and password to access their account.

3
1.4.1 USE OF SHOPPING CART
Shopping Cart System is the Simple shopping Solution. It’s a full-featured website
and shopping cart system that bends over backwards to give you the flexibility you need to run
your online store. The basic concept of the application is to allow the customer to shop virtually
using the Internet and allow customers to buy the items and articles of their desire from the store.
The information pertaining to the products are stores on an RDBMS at the server side (store).
The Server process the customers and the items are shipped to the address submitted by them.
The details of the items are brought forward from the database for the customer view based on
the selection through the menu and the database of all the products are update the end of each
transaction.

1.4 .2 UNDERSTANDING OF THE EXISTING SYSTEM

 In the existing system all transactions, dealings of products, purchasing of products were
done manually which is time consuming.
 Reports are prepared manually as and when needed. Maintaining of reports is very
tedious task.
 To buy any product user has to collect information about it either by visiting the shop or
asking people which is the better one.
 There is no computer system for handling payments. All calculations are performed
manually which may not be accurate always. Maintaining the record is really a tedious
task.
 Any internet user can use this existing website to search for any kind of products, select
particular products from a wide range of products.
 Once they make of their mind to purchase any particular thing they can place an order
and make a payment throw various available payment option

1.4.3 Need for the New System

 Online Shopping Portal is a specific requirement of the client that integrates the buying
and selling services specifically to their customers. Need for the new system is due to
major drawbacks of existing system.
 Reports can be generated at any time within few seconds, so that manual labor is not
required, and also analysis can be performed much more frequently which helps in taking
decision. The details regarding all users, products can also be maintained as their
information is very helpful and sometimes becomes a critical requirement.

4
 Allows user to get registered from their places and transact for the required product.
 To overcome these problems in existing system we develop “Online Shopping Portal”.

1.4.4 SOLUTION OF MANUAL PROBLEM.

The development of the new system contains the following activities, which try to automate the
entire process keeping in view of the database integration approach.
1. User friendliness is provided in the application with various controls.
2. The system makes the overall project management much easier and flexible.

CHAPTER 2:
2.0 Technology/Platform Overview

6
2.1 Introduction to PHP
The PHP programming language is a server-side HTML embedded scripting language. The
PHP language runs on the server-side. This means that the execution (read starting) of the
scripts is done on the server where the web-site is hosted. HTML embedded means that you
can use PHP statements (read a piece of PHP code) from within an HTML code. PHP files
are returned to the browser as plain HTML.
Because PHP is an HTML embedded language you should have a basic understanding of
HTML/XHTML and (a little) JavaScript. In the coming tutorials we will explain the PHP
code, but we won’t explain the HTML code (at least not in great detail.)

. PHP code is usually processed by a PHP interpreter, which is usually implemented as a web
server's native module or a Common Gateway Interface (CGI) executable. After the PHP code is
interpreted and executed, the web server sends the resulting output to its client, usually in the
form of a part of the generated web page; for example, PHP code can generate a web page's
HTML code, an image, or some other data. PHP has also evolved to include a command-line
interface (CLI) capability and can be used in standalone graphical applications.

WHAT IS PHP?

 PHP stands for PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor.

 As we said before it is a server-side scripting language.
 PHP is free and is an open source software product.
 The PHP scripts are executed on the server.
 PHP supports many databases (MySQL, Sybase, Oracle and many others.)
 PHP runs on different platforms (Unix, Linux, Windows.)
 PHP is compatible with almost all web-servers used today (Apache, IIS, etc.)
 A PHP file can contain plain text, HTML tags and scripts
 The PHP files can have one of the following extensions: php, php3 or phtml.

7
During the 2010s PHP as a platform has matured significantly, largely by influence from other
software communities and projects such as Npm. In addition to standard library improvements,
the work of PHP-FIG in the form of PSR-initiatives, Composer dependency manager and
the Packagist repository have been a significant factor in this.

Front End and Back End

1. Front End: PHP, HTML, CSS
2. Back End: MYSQL

2.2 Description of the DreamViewer

2.2.1 DREAMVIEWER
Dreamweaver – what is it? Adobe Dreamweaver is a software application that allows you to
create and develop Web sites. Dreamweaver is considered WYSIWYG (What You See Is What
You Get), meaning that when you format your Web page, you see the results of the formatting
instead of the mark-ups that are used for formatting. HTML is not WYSIWYG, whereas
Microsoft Word is WYSIWYG. However, Dreamweaver allows you to hand code HTML as
well. Dreamweaver also supports CSS and JavaScript as well as other languages including ASP
and PHP.

Dreamweaver is fairly complex software. In this lab we will be getting a basic introduction to
this software package.

Dreamweaver is a computer program that is used to make web pages. It was created by
Macromedia. Macromedia is now owned by Adobe Systems. It can be used on
either Windows computers or Macintosh computers. It can be used to make CSS, JavaScript, and
other web technologies. Adobe Dreamweaver is available for OS X and for Windows.

USING DREAMWEAVER
Dreamweaver is a web authoring program that uses a WYSIWYG “what you see is what you
get” interface. The HTML code is being created and is accessible to you if you want to play with
it. Finally, let’s get started with Dreamweaver. Launch Dreamweaver

8
1. Start Dreamweaver. You should see a startup screen. Dreamweaver lets you publish your
Web site by easily uploading your Web site to a Web server. Right now we won’t be
worrying about that. For now, you will be creating and viewing your site locally (which
means the site will be located on your computer)

CREATE A NEW SITE

2. From the Site menu, choose Manage Sites… The Manage Sites Box should appear.

3. Click New and then choose Site from the pop-up menu.

4. Click on the Advanced Tab under Site Definition for Unnamed Site 1.

5. In the Advanced Tab, under Category, choose Local Info.

6. Next to Site Name, type: My First Dreamweaver Web site

Adobe Dreamweaver is a web design and development application that provides a

visual WYSIWYG editor (colloquially referred to as the Design view) and a code editor with
standard features such as syntax highlighting, code completion, and code collapsing as well as
more sophisticated features such as real-time syntax checking and code introspection for
generating code hints to assist the user in writing code. The Design view facilitates rapid layout
design and generations it allows users to create and manipulate the layout of HTML elements. It
provides transfer and synchronization features, the ability to find and replace lines of text or code
by search terms or regular expressions across the entire site, and a templating feature that allows
single-source update of shared code and layout across entire sites without server-side includes or
scripting.

Dreamweaver, like other HTML editors, edits files locally then uploads them to the remote web
server using FTP, SFTP, or WebDAV. Dreamweaver CS4 now supports the Subversion
(SVN) version control system.

2.2.2 XAMPP

XAMPP is a free and open source cross-platform web server solution stack package developed
by Apache Friends, consisting mainly of the Apache HTTP Server, My SQL database,
and interpreters for scripts written in the PHP and Perl programming languages

9
The word XAMPP is actually an acronym, and the initials represent the following words /
phrases:

Acronym Letter Acronym Meaning

X X(to be read as “cross”, meaning cross-platform)

A Apache HTTP Server.

M My Sql .

P PHP

P Perl

FEATURES
XAMPP is regularly updated to incorporate the latest releases ofApache, MySQL, PHP and Perl.

Anyway, XAMPP consists of the three main things that you need to know when starting web
development. They are:
 Apache Web Server
 PHP
 MySQL

USAGES
Officially, XAMPP's designers intended it for use only as a development tool, to allow website
designers and programmers to test their work on their own computers without any access to the
Internet. To make this as easy as possible, many important security features are disabled by
default

Once XAMPP is installed, it is possible to treat a local host like a remote host by connecting
using an FTP client. Using a program like File Zilla has many advantages when installing
a content management system (CMS) like Joomla or Word Press. It is also possible to connect to
localhost via FTP with an HTML editor.

The default FTP user is "newuser", the default FTP password is "wampp". The default MySQL
user is "root" while there is no default MySQL password.

10
2.2.3 CONFIGURING PHP DEVELOPMENT ENVIRONMENT IN WINDOWS

PHP development requires the following software installed and configured:

 Using an AMP Package

 Installing and Configuring the XAMPP Package

 Checking XAMPP Installation

 Installing and Enabling the XDebug Debugger

 Installing the Components Separately

 Apache HTTP Server

 PHP Engine

 MySQL Database Server.

2.2.4 HTML
In 1990, as part of his vision of the Web, Tim Berners-Lee defined the concept of hypertext,
which Berners-Lee formalized the following year through a markup mainly based on SGML.
The IETF began formally specifying HTML in 1993, and after several drafts released version 2.0
in 1995. In 1994 Berners-Lee founded the W3C to develop the Web. In 1996, the W3C took over
the HTML work and published the HTML 3.2 Recommendation a year later. HTML 4.0 was
released in 1999 and became an ISO standard in 2000.
At that time, the W3C nearly abandoned HTML in favor of XHTML, prompting the founding of
an independent group called WHATWG in 2004. Thanks to WHATWG, work
on HTML5 continued: the two organizations released the first draft in 2008 and the final
standard in 2014.

HyperText Markup Language, commonly referred to as HTML, is the standard markup

language used to create web pages. Web browsers can read HTML files and render them into
visible or audible web pages. HTML describes the structure of a websites mantically along with
cues for presentation, making it a markup language, rather than a programming language.

HTML can embed scripts written in languages such as JavaScript which affect the behaviour of
HTML web pages. Web browsers can also refer to Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) to define the
look and layout of text and other material. The World Wide Web Consortium(W3C), maintainer

11
of both the HTML and the CSS standards, has encouraged the use of CSS over explicit
presentational HTML since 1997.

TAGS
HTML documents are written in plain text. You can write HTML in any text editor that lets you
save content as plain text (e.g. Notepad, Notepad++, or Sublime Text), but most HTML authors
prefer to use a specialized editor that highlights syntax and shows the DOM. You may use
uppercase for tag names, but the W3C (the global consortium that maintains the HTML
standard) recommends using lower case (and XHTML requires lower case).
HTML attaches special meaning to anything that starts with the less-than sign ("<") and ends
with the greater-than sign (">"). Such markup is called a tag. Make sure to close the tag, as some
tags are closed by default, whereas others might produce unexpected errors if you forget the end
tag.
2.2.5 CSS
A CSS (cascading style sheet) file allows you to separate your web sites (X)HTML content from
it’s style. As always you use your (X)HTML file to arrange the content, but all of the
presentation (fonts, colors, background, borders, text formatting, link effects & so on…) are
accomplished within a CSS.
At this point you have some choices of how to use the CSS, either internally or externally. So,
which is better?
So with all these various ways of inserting CSS into your (X)HTML files, you may now be
asking well which is better, and if I use more than one method, in what order do these different
ways load into my browser?
Types of Style sheet
All the various methods will cascade into a new “pseudo” stylesheet in the following order:
 Inline Style (inside (X)HTML element)
 Internal Style Sheet (inside the <head> tag)
 External Style Sheet

As far as which way is better, it depends on what you want to do. If you have only one file to
style then placing it within the <head></head> tags (internal) will work fine. Though if you are
planning on styling multiple files then the external file method is the way to go.

12
Choosing between the <link related=> & the @import methods are completely up to you. I will
mention that the @import method may take a second longer to read the CSS file in Internet
Explorer than the <link related=> option. To combat this see Flash of unstyled content

INTERNAL STYLESHEET
First we will explore the internal method. This way you are simply placing the CSS code within
the <head></head> tags of each (X)HTML file you want to style with the CSS With this method
each (X)HTML file contains the CSS code needed to style the page. Meaning that any changes
you want to make to one page, will have to be made to all. This method can be good if you need
to style only one page, or if you want different pages to have varying styles.

EXTERNAL STYLESHEET
Next we will explore the external method. An external CSS file can be created with any text or
HTML editor such as “Notepad” or “Dreamweaver”. A CSS file contains no (X)HTML, only
CSS. You simply save it with the .css file extension. You can link to the file externally by
placing one of the following links in the head section of every (X)HTML file you want to style
with the CSS file.

CASCADING ORDER
In the previous paragraphs, I have explained how to link to a css file either internally or
externally. If you understood, than I am doing a good job. If not don’t fret, there is a long way to
go before we are finished. Assuming you have caught on already, you are probably asking, well
can I do both? The answer is yes. You can have both internal, external, and now wait a minute a
third way? Yes inline styles also.

INLINE STYLES
I have not mentioned them until now because in a way they defeat the purpose of using CSS in
the first place. Inline styles are defined right in the (X)HTML file along side the element you
want to style.

13
CHAPTER 3:

3.0 DESIGN(NATURE OF SOLUTION)

14
3.1 Aspect of system:
 Input
The record of the registration form is to be input by the end users. After that the user
login into the system. However, some inputs will be automatic, like the ID’s of user,
authorization, etc. The analyst would design the input layout incorporating
aforementioned details.
 Output
The system will produce short-term outputs of the using the front end designed.
 Processing
For the files of information, processing is inevitable. For the proposed system, it means
data handling such as adding of new user, user login process, sending mails, checking
inbox, deleting mails, etc. These processing are inevitable aspect of the system that needs
to be considered while developing the software. Meanwhile, the users’ requirements
should be considered or the exact processing will missed.
 Validation:
The System will have validation check programs so that senseless input doesn’t get
through the system and eat up disk/memory. No blank Attributes would be stored except
for the system’s isolated propose that has nothing to do with actual data.
 User Interface and Comfort
The user will feel very easy to get used to the system and carry out activities normally
once the system is installed. Forms and menus will be user-friendly to use and the layout
colours will be pleasant for the eyes to prevent health hazards on working long hours.
The Hardware will also be comfortable, with ergonomic mouse and keyboard with LCD
monitors instead of the traditional uncomfortable hardware.
 Security and Access Right
Only the authorized user can login to the system supplying the password that has been set
during the registration.
Physical security of system would be the responsibility of admin after its implementation.
