FIRST ASSIGNMENT

INTRODUCTION: DRAWING MANGA AND ANIME STYLE

1. Introductory Assignment 1 (IA1): Comparative Drawing Assignment

Recommended Time Investment: 1-4 Hours Recommended Frequency: Once-off

Manga and Anime have a distinct and unique stylization, and pale imitations of the style are easy to see.
Throughout this course, you will learn all the hidden rules, proportions, measurements and stylistic
elements required to create an authentic and appealing manga style. For your first assignment:

Draw any character of your choice, utilising all your current knowledge.

At the end of the course, you will compare this first assignment with your final assignment, utilising all
the learned theory from throughout the course.

Take this assignment seriously, it will be a yardstick to gauge your progress at the end.

Ensure that when you have completed your assignments and are submitting them to the Character
Art School Community, that you are clearly stating the assignment number, for example “M2A2”,
so that you are critiqued and given feedback correctly at your current level of knowledge.
