Answer: - According to the given data the flow diagram is

Item End L C K B J G H

LT 1 2 3 3 2 3 3 2

On hand - 10 15 20 30 30 5 -

End Items

L(2) C(1) K(3)

B(2) J(3) G(2) B(2) H(4) B(2)

a) Inorder to find the number of additional units required for B we need to find the all units related to
given flow diagram

Given End item = 41 units

Formula to calculate units at each components = componemt*end item - on hand units

For L = 2*41 - 10 = 72 units, For C = 1*41 - 15 = 26 units, For K = 3*41 - 20 = 103 units

Now we need to find only the B components units in L, C, K.

For B = 72*2 - 30 = 114 units, For B = 26*2 = 52 units, For B = 103*2 = 206 units

Total units of B = 114 + 52 + 206 = 372 units

So additional units of B are needed = 372 units

b) An order for the end item is scheduled to be shipped at the start of week 8. In order to find latest
week that the order can be started and still be ready to ship on time we need to find sequance with
highest lead time.

Formula to calculate lead time of each sequance = sum of lead times of sequance

For sequance: End item - L - B = 1 + 2 + 2 = 5 weeks

For sequance: End item - L - J = 1 + 2 + 3 = 6 weeks

For sequance: End item - C - G = 1 + 3 + 3 = 7 weeks

For sequance: End item - C - B = 1 + 3 + 2 = 6 weeks

For sequance: End item - K - H = 1 + 3 + 2 = 6 weeks

For sequance: End item - K - B = 1 + 3 + 2 = 6 weeks

From the above analysis we obtained the highest lead time of sequence as 7 weeks

So latest week that the order can be started and still be ready to ship = Start week given - Highest
sequence lead time

= 8 weeks - 7 weeks = 1 week
