Answer: - According to given data

Job Time Due date

A 14 20

B 10 16

C 7 15

D 6 17

a) Sequence the jobs

First come first serve : - A-B-C-D, it is sequenced as it arrived in table formet

Shortest processing time : - D-C-B-A, it is sequenced based on time with least one first

Earlier due date : - C-B-D-A, it is sequenced based on the least due date asfirst one.

Critical ratio : - A-C-D-B, In order to sequence by this we need to perform ratio analysis. For that we need
to assume 0

Critical ratio = due date - intial value / time

Job Time Due date Critical ratio

A 14 20 (20-0)/14 = 1.43

B 10 16 (16-0)/10 = 1.6

C 7 15 (15-0)/7 = 2.14

D 6 17 (17-0)/6 = 2.83

From the above the least one is job A so it is sequenced first

Next the intial value is cumulated with eliminated one 0+14 = 14

Job Time Due date Critical ratio

B 10 16 (16-14)/10 = 0.2

C 7 15 (15-14)/7 = 0.143

D 6 17 (17-14)/6 = 0.5

From the above the next least one is C so it is sequenced next

Next the cumulative sum = 14+7 = 21

Job Time Due date Critical ratio

B 10 16 (16-21)/10 = -0.5

D 6 17 (17-21)/6 = -0.67

The least one is D so it sequenced next and finaly we sequence B

b) First come first serve

Job Time Due date Flow time Tardiness (flow time - due date)

A 14 20 14 14-20 = -6 = 0

B 10 16 24 24-16 = 8

C 7 15 31 31-15 = 16

D 6 17 37 37-17 = 20

Total 37 106 44

Average job flow time = Total flow time / no.of jobs = 106/4 = 26.50

Average Job tardiness = Total Tardiness / no.of jobs = 44/4 = 11

Average number of jobs = Total flow time / Total time = 106/37 = 2.86 Jobs

Shortest processing time

Job Time Due date Flow time Tardiness (flow time - due date)

D 6 17 6 6-17 = 0

C 7 15 13 13-15 = 0

B 10 16 23 23-16 = 7

A 14 20 37 37-20 = 17

Total 37 79 24

Average job flow time = Total flow time / no.of jobs = 79/4 = 19.75

Average Job tardiness = Total Tardiness / no.of jobs = 24/4 = 6

Average number of jobs = Total flow time / Total time = 79/37 = 2.14 Jobs
Earliest due date

Job Time Due date Flow time Tardiness (flow time - due date)

C 7 15 7 7-15 = 0

B 10 16 17 17-16 = 1

D 6 17 23 23-17 = 6

A 14 20 37 37-20 = 17

Total 37 84 24

Average job flow time = Total flow time / no.of jobs = 84/4 = 21

Average Job tardiness = Total Tardiness / no.of jobs = 24/4 = 6

Average number of jobs = Total flow time / Total time = 84/37 = 2.27 Jobs

Critical ratio

Job Time Due date Flow time Tardiness (flow time - due date)

A 14 20 14 14-20 = -6 = 0

C 7 15 21 21-15 = 6

D 6 17 27 27-17 = 10

B 10 16 37 37-16 = 21

Total 37 99 37

Average job flow time = Total flow time / no.of jobs = 99/4 = 24.75

Average Job tardiness = Total Tardiness / no.of jobs = 37/4 = 9.25

Average number of jobs = Total flow time / Total time = 99/37 = 2.68 Jobs

c) From the above analysis we can conclude that Shortest processing time is the best order to sequence
the job because average flow time, tardiness and jobs is low when compared to other sequence orders.
