Barter Arbitrage: Jump Start

One of the easiest ways to jump head feet into the bizarre world of trade is to literally execute
the famous Andy Warhol “I’ll trade my art for anything” blitz.

Trading is a skill that can be learned and improved on. Why wait?

Find something you own that has some perceived value–but that you can live without–and slap
it up on the Craigslist barter section.

Run the following ad:

HAVE X (describe your item in detail)….WILL TRADE FOR ANYTHING! CALL VINCE AT
123-4567

OK while this may seem like a silly exercise, it’s a actually a valuable trading trainer.

Depending on what you’re offering you will gain valuable data from the jump street: like the
demand of your item based on the number of replies you get…and the offers you get which
might range from the ridiculous to friggin’ awesome and everything in between.

Don’t worry about trading up on your first go around unless you want to. The idea here is to wet
your feet into the barter world and change one reality for another.

This technique requires no salesmanship because you’re basically just using it as a gauge to
see what the hell kind of offers come your way.

Unlike the cash world where the price is well defined…you NEVER know what the hell you can
turn that ugly pink flamingo into. Perception is always reality.

In many cases you can trade the very same item you’ll never be able to sell for cash. And the
item you trade for can often be sold for cash and you can see where we’re going with this, right?

Give it try! Gauge your results. Test different items and even if you trade value for value there is
a great chance you can at the very least, turn something you no longer “value” into something
that you do.
