a. Give a five-sentence summary of the film.

Andrea Sachs, a simple and fresh graduate of Journalism is hired to work as the
second assistant of Miranda Priestly, the influential and ruthless Editor-in-Chief of
the Runway fashion magazine. Andrea’s biggest dream is to become a journalist
and despite of being unfamiliar about fashion, she faced the challenge of being a
part of the fashion industry. Emily, the first assistant informed Andrea about the
demeanor and preferences of their merciless boss and the company’s stylist, Nigel,
helped Andrea in dressing more appropriately for her environment. Throughout the
movie, Andrea changed her attitude and behavior which greatly affected her private
life. In the end, Andrea happily left her boss realizing that life is made of choices.
b. Describe the two major characters Andrea Sachs and Miranda Priestly.

Andre Sachs is a modest and intelligent young woman who knows nothing about
fashion. She is not as slender and petite as other girls but she is beyond smarter
compared to them. The movie shows how kind, determined, and hardworking
Andre is.

Miranda Priestly, a mother of twins is known as the career-obssesed dragon lady of

her company. She is sophisticated and at the same time, a cruel boss. When she
enters the building of Runway, everyone panics. She has a great aura and infuence.
The company greatly relies on her, listening only to her decisions. Despite of being
cruel, Miranda is such a strong and reliable woman.
c. Cite reasons why Andrea and Miranda are symbols of Feminism.
Andrea and Miranda are women of dignity and choice. At first, Andrea looks like
a typical naïve but smart girl and Miranda looks like a workaholic boss. It is true
but looking deeply, they both share the same characteristic---strong and
independent. Andrea is away from her town and family to work on her own. She
chose to set aside her relationship with her boyfriend to pursue her dreams. Miranda
on the other hand, has made much sacrifice in order to mother a successful business.
She’s had several divorces but never once allowed herself to become the damsel in
distress; waiting for mighty male savior to rescue her. She is able to run a globally
successful fashion magazine while being an independent single parent.

Both of them shows the essence of women in the society. That women are not
objects to look down but an equal to respect. They portray women who can stand
on their own, make their decisions and move forward in life without being a burden.
d. Justify why the film is an example of Chic-Lit.

Chick-Lit are works made by women, portrayed by women especially for women.

community. The movie shows girl power and gender role because it offers different
