Andrea Sachs, a simple and fresh graduate of Journalism is hired to work as the
second assistant of Miranda Priestly, the influential and ruthless Editor-in-Chief of
the Runway fashion magazine. Andrea’s biggest dream is to become a journalist
and despite of being unfamiliar about fashion, she faced the challenge of being a
part of the fashion industry. Emily, the first assistant informed Andrea about the
demeanor and preferences of their merciless boss and the company’s stylist, Nigel,
helped Andrea in dressing more appropriately for her environment. Throughout the
movie, Andrea changed her attitude and behavior which greatly affected her private
life. In the end, Andrea happily left her boss realizing that life is made of choices.
b. Describe the two major characters Andrea Sachs and Miranda Priestly.
Andre Sachs is a modest and intelligent young woman who knows nothing about
fashion. She is not as slender and petite as other girls but she is beyond smarter
compared to them. The movie shows how kind, determined, and hardworking
Andre is.
Both of them shows the essence of women in the society. That women are not
objects to look down but an equal to respect. They portray women who can stand
on their own, make their decisions and move forward in life without being a burden.
d. Justify why the film is an example of Chic-Lit.
Chick-Lit are works made by women, portrayed by women especially for women.
The movie The Devil Wears Prada is one of the best example of Chick-Lit. It is
written and portayed by women. It showcases the significance of women in a
community. The movie shows girl power and gender role because it offers different
views and ideologies of women.
