This document is going to explain what´s the function of art in human history and what
people think about it. For that is important to look for different points of view. What the art
is? How do we know what is art?

Introduction

The art is a very open term, the reason for that is that the art has changed its meaning
trough time, and the art has existed since the beginning of humanity. Actually, we can´t
classify it, and the reason for that is that no one knows how to do it. There is a lot of
movements around the art that represents phases of the human thinking and a lot of political,
economic and social reasons than affect the way of art expressions.

But there is other reason for doing art, and it is an auto-motivation for being an artist. This
reason exist because there is no necessary a social movement to do a chart. For example, the
first humans painted in walls the things they´ve done, like, haunting or animals they had
meeting. The human need to express thoughts across art to say “hey that´s what I’m feeling”
or “that’s what I think about that”.

There are some artists that create art, but they don´t want to tell the people what it means,
they look that people search a meaning by themselves, and these kind of artist enjoy how the
people looks for different meaning to give sense to what they´re seeing, because, of course,
you can do art only for fun.

And that is what I think about art.

2
How do we know what art is?

A long time ago, people thought the art was the way it was made, but, actually, the art is
the idea that it represent. For example, if you see a chart made of blue and dark tones, it can
represent a melancholic idea.

But, is really that art? Why we don´t doubt and say “yeah! It is art”. That´s because we
know that it represent an idea, and the collective is on agreement, nobody have doubts that
in effect, the thing we all are seeing is art. What leads us to say that something is art when
the major part of humanity is agree, that in effect, this something is art.

Alejandra Chacón, student of art bachelor’s degree said that art is a set of expressions that
require a creation made by a person, which is a definition that people agreed.

Can we classify the art?

The people in the past classified the art in architecture, painting, sculpture, music, etc. But
now is like you can´t classify it, cause it can represent a lot of things.

The human mind is very complex, which is the correct way to represent the thoughts each
individual have? It is very hard to know, for that we redefined the meaning of art, and that
leads us to the first question we made.
Alejandra said that it doesn´t have a classification, there is no criteria to do something like
that, it is a very open term, that is like discuss of the existence of a soul.

3
What is the function of the art?

The function of art was no more than an aesthetic function. It was changing over time, for
example, Pablo Picasso panted Guernica, a description of suffering when Nazi Germany
bombed Guernica only to test their bombs in the Second World War.

But we can agree that art have the function of the communication, a different universal
language.
Alejandra said that art make a reconstruction of thinking of the phenomenology that looks
for takeout our thinking of daily things and give them a new context. It´s not a use we give
to art, but it´s a function than comes with the art.

Who can do art?

Everyone can do art, the only condition to do it is that the thing you´ll probably do is that
it have to represent something, don´t matter what. Since we are children we have the talent
of being artist, but we limit our minds and the creativity ends when we grow up. Some people
think that just a count people have the talent to do art, but that´s a long discussion between
two ways of thinking.

Personally I think that everyone can do it. Alejandra thinks not all the people have the
talent to say that themselves are artist, but one thing is what you say and other than the society
accepts you like an artist.

Who is the most famous Pinter?

Pablo Picasso is actually, the most famous painter, the most famous charts are: Guernica,
The tree musicians, The Avignon ladies and Ox skull.

4
He is famous for had invented the cubism, a famous movement that play with the color
and geometric shapes. The spectators have to reconstruct the image in their minds, and finally
give a meaning to what they’re seeing. That´s the reason why the cubism is so abstract, and
the reason of the fame that Picasso have.

Alejandra thinks is da-Vinci, the reason is that da-Vinci has aported to all kinds of
movements in art without belonging to one. She clear out that is the most important and
recognized painter, but not the most famous, that is in effect, by now, Picasso.

When the art becomes art?

In the history, with the apparition of human, the art was used for rituals and had a magic and
religious use. So we can say that art have the same time than human existence.

The art is usually associated with envelopments cultures, like the Greek one, but this is
wrong, because the art has been with the human since the beginning.

New kind of art are been created. When a different way of thinking is created and it is
accepted by the people, only there, we can say that a new kind of art has born.

5
Which is the lesser famous artist?

There is no criteria to classify the lesser famous artist, there are a lot of artist the people
don´t know. But that is in general, is different when we talk about recognition.

The lesser recognized artist, said Alejandra, is Nam-Sim-Paik, and he belonged to fluxus
movement in the 60´s. The fluxus movement is an artistic collective that defend the idea that
say the art is for everyone and it don´t deserve to be kept in museums.

Nam-Sim-Paik have artistic pieces around the world, but no one knows if the pieces there
are, belongs to Nam-Sim-Paik.

What I think about the last painting of da-Vinci?

It´s impressive that it had been sold by more than four hundred millions of dollars becoming
the most expensive painting in the history, that respect the price, the religious charts like the
last painting of da-Vinci ‘salvator mundi’ or ‘the last dinner’ have something that I don´t
like. I prefer other kind of paintings, like Van-goh, maybe is the fact that the religious paints
are darker than the modern ones.

What people see in art?

-“The art need immaterial elements like imagination, passion, love, aesthetic, criticism and
humanity, the art is a way to fill your senses”- anonymous.
-“Who doesn´t understand what the art is, is not a human, cause don´t have sensibility”.-
anonymous.

These are two public opinions, in effect, all the opinions of people that think in art like
something useful, finds that you need feeling to do art, to do something that could have a
meaning.

6
Alejandra said that, when the people see an art piece, they must do a simple question:
what does it transmit?

In conclusion, we have than art have to represent something, it has been since the beginning
of humanity, you can´t classify it, it is a language, everybody can do art and, for last, when
you see an art piece, you have to search for a main meaning, what it transmit?

The art is considered like an important part of the human, is something that made us the
way we are, the world could be a different place without it. The question is, why do we lose
interest?
