On the first day of my internship which is June 11, 2019, I and my co-interns

went to the office for the engineers to orient us about what we are going to do in
sites. At that time, I felt excited because I know I will learn new things about
engineering but yet I felt a bit nervous because I am afraid if I make a mistake
and may affect or delay their works. But then, they told us that “it’s okay to have
mistakes because you are OJT’s, you are new to this but just don’t do it
purposely, if u don’t know what to do then approach us engineers, we will help
in order for you to learn” they said. I felt so relieved at that time. There’s a
thought in my mind that “I will do my best to prove that I am worthy as a civil
engineer”.

During the training days of actual work in Sampaguita Es which is a Four Story
School Building, I learned how to estimate the number of quantities of Tiles
(Glazed, Unglazed, Trim), Railings and Square Bars, Grills (Window, Corridor)
and CHB in that particular school because it was the task given to me and it
should be pass within 5 days. I also learned how to solve actual beams,
columns, footings and formulas used in cutting list. Then when we transfer at
Bagumbong Hs, I learned how to use digital theodolite and after accumulating
the points, I learned how to layout the points in autocad. Then when we are at
JDC Pasay which is a condo, I gained knowledge about their designs of beds,
cabinets and especially their stairs that pass through walls. And lastly is when I
went to Optical Quiapo which is a commercial building, I also gained knowledge
about their designs because I was given a task to inspect the every part of the
building. It add up to my knowledge and experience when we conduct our own
layout using digital theodolite and prism in a newly demolished Sampaguita HS.

The advantage of the OJT program to us is to experience the difference

between books in school and reality in works. It is like Expectation vs Reality.
We expect that we know but in reality some of us don’t. It is for us to apply the
theories and computations from school to the works in real life occupation that
we will soon encounter. And it also helps us gain more knowledge and tips
from engineers in what they do inorder to survive from school reviews to now,
the field works.
