BACK TO SAFETY BASICS

It is important to get back to safety basics. Listed below are 15 basic safety recommendations
you
should follow:
1. Wear Personal Protective Equipment ( PPE ) ( hard hats, safety boots, coveralls, safety
glasses, respirators ( etc ) as required.
2. Wear eye protection when performing hot work, or when in the vicinity of hot work.
3. Wear safety harness when working above the height of 2 metres or when working outboard
of
any structure.
4. Always ensure rigging and lifting equipment is in good condition and is marked with the
current colour code prior to use.
5. Always obey safety signs, warning notices and barriers, they are there for a reason.
6. Never walk or stand under a suspended load.
7. Keep especially alert when operating equipment or machinery. Avoid any “pinch points”.
8. Never grease or oil machinery while it is running.
9. Be familiar with the location of Fire Fighting Equipment.
10. Good housekeeping is very important in maintaining a safe work environment.
11. Never place tools or materials in a position where they can fall on other workers.
12. Correct any unsafe conditions you can; report others to your supervisor.
13. Report all injuries promptly no matter how small they may seem.
14. Never act impulsively. Think about what you are going to do before you do it.
Consider the hazards and take the necessary precautions.
15. Report all Accidents, Near Misses or Incidents to your supervisor or safety officer.

Remember, attend all safety meetings for your crew. Participate at these meetings by making
safety suggestions.
