I. Introduction
In designing a general arragement of a ship other than determining the
machining part used, the size of the tank or the number of crew. Another thing
to note is the accommodation room. Placement of accommodation space in the
ship is ergonomically designed so that it is easily accessible and operated by the
crew. Determination of space for crew activities, placement of equipment
needed and determination of the gangway to reach the room need to be
considered.
II. Objectives
The purpose of the room arrangement is as follows:
 Plan the necessary accommodation space on the ship.
 Room determination for ABK activities.

7 square metres in ships of 10,000 gross tonnage or over;
2. Galley
 The location of the galley must be near the mess room, food
warehouse, and food cooler room.
 In addition galleys must be equipped with an exhaust fan
and light enough.
 Galley at the messroom for officers provided the pantry to
store food
3. Dry Provision and Cold Storage room
 Dry provision serves to store bulk materials that do not
require refrigeration and should be close to the galley and
pantry.
 Cold Storage room for materials that require refrigeration
such as fish, meat, and vegetables, so that these materials
remain fresh and well during shipping. The temperature of
the cooling room is maintained continuously with the
following conditions to store meat the maximum
temperature is: -220C; to store vegetables the maximum
temperature is: -120C
4. Ship Office
The master, the chief engineer and the chief navigating officer
shall have, in addition to their sleeping rooms, an adjoining sitting
room, day room or equivalent additional space; ships of less than
3,000 gross tonnage may be exempted by the competent authority
from this requirement after consultation with the ship owners’ and
seafarers’ organizations concerned
5. Mess Room

and Pantry.
 Cookers and boys use the same mess room as the other
crew.
6. Sanitary Accomodation
 Each vessel must be equipped with a sanitary
accommodation, including a shower, wash basin and toilet
where the usage is tailored to the needs.
 For Captain, the Chief Officer, Chief Engineer and operator
radio must be provided separately and equipped with bath
showers.

 sanitary placement on each deck in one straight flow, and

also make sure the sanitary is not close to the mess room.
 Toilets for deck dapertment, catering departments must be
provided separately.
7. Hospital Accomodation
Every ship carrying more than 15 sailors must be equipped with a
hospital.
 Hospital accommodation must be designed to facilitate
consultation and administration of medical first aid and to
help prevent the spread of infectious diseases.
 Arrangement of entrances, beds, lighting, ventilation,
heating and water supply must be designed to ensure
comfort and facilitate the care of its residents.
 The number of beds in a hospital must be determined by the
authorities.
 Hospitals must be equipped with sanitation
accommodations that have one toilet, sink and shower.
8. Laundry Room
The ship must be equipped with a laundry room. The room must be
equipped with equipment: Ventilated washing machine, dryer or
ventilation room, iron and ironing board.
9. Mushollah (Prayer Room)
In accordance with the needs of the crew to pray.
10. Navigation Room
In this room there are chat rooms, battery rooms. Usually on this
deck is also placed a radio room.
 Located on the highest deck so that the front and side views
are not disturbed (360o visibility).
 Fire detecting and extingushing control panels must be
available in the navigation room.
 Minimum visibility distance of 1.24 LPP (SOLAS Ref. Chapter
V: Safety of navigation, Regulation 22: Navigation Bridge
Visibility).

 The flying bridge is recommended to be 1 m (3 ft) wide from

the side of the ship building if it is possible for the Quarter
master to be able to see and hear if the dock pilot stands on
the flying bridge corner, so that it can make it easier to dock.

 Located on the front of the deck.

 A sofa that will be used by the captain while in the navigation
deck
 Has 2 independent radars to improve system availability at
all times.
 Liaison with the captain so that at any time he can call the
captain to immediately come to the wheelhouse if a problem
occurs.
 It is endeavored to provide all equipment and telephones so
that operators can use them while observing the shipping
conditions clearly.
 As much as possible make a lot of windows that can prevent
light reflection.
 There must be a distance outside the wheelhouse door.
11. Chart Room
 Located behind the wheel house
 Must be equipped with a map table measuring 1.8 m x
11.2m
12. Wheel House
 The wheel house must be placed on the top deck and have
such height that the view to the side and front is not
disturbed.
 Flying bridges are made on the side of the wheel house so
that the view towards the back, front and sides must be free.
 The right and left side doors of the wheel house generally
use sliding doors.
13. ESEP Room
ESEP room is placed on the top deck and battery storage used for
navigation equipment such as radio during an emergency (blackout).
14. Radio Room
Located as high as possible on the highest deck and protected from
water and weather disturbances.
V. II Equipment Accomodation
1. Accomodation Ladder
The accommodation ladder is a ladder used to connect the crew
traffic to and from the ship. Usually placed on the edge of the poop deck
on both sides of the ship, this is to anticipate if the ship leaned not only
on the portside but also the starboard. The maximum angle of
accommodation stairs at work is 45˚ according to ISM CODE. A.
Advanced specifications in accordance with ISM CODE are:
 Width of stairs = 600 ~ 800 mm
 Handrail height = 1000 mm
 Max grip lifter distance = 1500 mm
 The distance between stairs = 200 mm ~ 350 mm

 Used grating floor for stairs avoid accidents

2. Vertical Ladder
Is a ladder placed in open space and is usually used for areas with
limited space such as access to fore castle decks, top decks, cranes,
tanks, etc. In addition, this ladder is usually functioned as a
replacement ladder inclination (inclined) if it can not be used for some
reason.Based on ISM CODE vertical ladder specifications are:
 Both sides of the ladder are limited by a freshener 12 inches
between the freshener
 The distance between stairs 200 ~ 350 mm
 If necessary give a handle
 Used grating floor
 The distance from the wall is 150 mm
 Vertical ladder placement is used on the access between the top
deck navigation space then access from the main deck to the fore
castle deck, access to each loading space and stairs in the main
hole.

3. Inclined Ladder
The use of the sloping staircase is usually for access between decks
with each other in open space. Based on ISM CODE set the specification
of the sloping stairs as follows:
 Degree of slope 500 ~ 600

 Minimum height of ladder 1.9 m

 The minimum width of the 24-inch ladder but if not possible can
be reduced
 Equipped with a platform on the top deck of the ladder
 The distance between the 6-inch stairs to the top of the stairs is 9
inches

4. Inner Door
This door is an ordinary door that is placed in a closed room, ie in
rooms - rooms, offices, kitchens, etc. The size of the inner
accommodation door are 700 x 1800 mm
5. Watertight Door
This door is placed in the access area between the enclosed space
and open space. Especially for the impermeable door poop deck area
equipped with additional threshold door. The size of the door is as
follows :
Width : 800 mm
Height: 1800 mm
Threshold : 300 mm
6. Window Accomodation
Window planning is the same as a door, adjusted to its location. The
goal is for air circulation and natural light to the space occupied. The
type of window used is a round (fixed) or four rectangle window.Round
Window placed on the main deck area. In addition, this window is
impermeable. Usually 400 mm in diameter.
7. Rectangle Window
Placed on the other deck, with a planning size of 600 mm x 700 mm
with a radius of 46 mm.
