When the start up is complete, the Systems Configuration Reporter opens in your
default web browser.
2. To save system collection profiles, click Manage multiple collections from the main
page. Click New. You can add system level collection profiles in the following ways:
a. Add a system collection profile manually:
i. Click on Manually create a new collection profile. Enter a name for
the collection profile and the Converged System serial number.
ii. Click Save.
iii. Click the +Component tab of the collection profile name that you just
created.

12 | Starting data collection

DELL EMC CONFIDENTIAL
Subject to Confidentiality Use Restrictions
iv. Click on the component that you want to add, provide a unique name
to the component profile, and enter the credentials with admin level
access.
Note: All input fields are mandatory to run collection on a component
profile.

v. Click Save to create the component profile under the selected

collection profile. This adds a new component under the collection
profile you added.
vi. Repeat steps iii-v until you add all the components from which you
want to collect data. The Systems Configuration Reporter allows you to
make collection profile changes and component access profile
changes at any point.
Note: Saving component credentials as a component profile can be
used in subsequent sessions. Give the component profile a
name that will help you distinguish the component from other
data collections.

b. Import a collection profile from a VCE System Configuration File: With the
Systems Configuration Reporter, a system collection profile can be created by
importing a Vblock System configuration file. Importing the configuration file will
create a new collection profile. The VAST .cfg file may not have accurate
credentials as it is created when system was built or shipped.
i. Click Import collection profile from .cfg file.
ii. In the pop-up window, drag and drop the .cfg file and click Import. This
will import all the information available in the .cfg file and create a
collection profile with Converged System serial number with
component profiles under it.
Note: All access profiles may not have all the credentials to do
collection successfully. Go through each profile to make sure
that all component profiles have correct credentials. Correct or
add values to missing required fields. For Converged Systems
without Vision software installed, you can add the system serial
number in the .cfg file, for example:
serialNumber=Vxxxxxxxxxxx.

c. Import a collection profile from the MSM VM: Use this option to import
product component credentials directly from the MSM VM. This import option
pulls information from a live system, thus will import updated credentials. You
must confirm the credentials that were imported under each component.
i. Click Import new collection from remote MSM or Vision Core.
ii. In the pop-up window, enter a hostname and username for the MSM
VM. Accept the host key and provide the virtual machine password.
Click Save.
iii. The Systems Configuration Reporter pulls component information from
the MSM VM. Click Import to save the collection profile.
Note: All access profiles may not have all the credentials to do
collection successfully. Update each profile to make sure that all

Starting data collection | 13

DELL EMC CONFIDENTIAL

component access profiles have credentials. If any are missing,
add values to missing required fields.

d. Import a collection profile from Converged System LCS file: System

Collection profiles can also be created by importing the Converged System
LCS file. Importing the LCS file would create a new collection profile.
i. Add the LCS file to be imported in the following directory:
C:\Users\username\.vce\vision\one\conf
ii. Click Import new collection profile from local LCS file.
iii. In the pop-up window, drag and drop your LCS file and enter the
Converged System serial number.
iv. Click Import.
Note: All usernames and passwords will be defaults for component
profiles, so values may be inaccurate for collection of the
system. Some component profiles may have empty input fields.
Update the credentials wherever needed and add values to
missing input fields under component profiles.

e. Optional steps for profile modifications:

 To rename a collection profile, click on edit icon on right side of the
collection profile. Add your changes and click Save Information.
 To delete a collection profile, click on trash icon on the right side of the
collection profile and click Delete.
 To rename a component profile, click on the component profile or click
on edit icon on the right side of the component profile. Add your
changes and click Save Information.
 To delete a component profile, click on trash icon on the right side of
the collection profile and hit Delete.
3. Start data collection by selecting one or multiple system collection profile(s) or
component access profile(s). Check the console logs to get the current status of the
collection.
Note: After starting data collection, do not navigate away from the page until data
collection is complete. There is no way to track the result of collection if you
navigate to another page. Navigating away will not stop the collection. Upon
collection completion, each component profile collection will display Success or
Failed according to the collection status.

Next steps
When data collection finishes, click Review Findings or click Review Collected Data at top of
the page. Click Manage collections to add or delete collection profiles or start another
collection. This lists all discovered subcomponents by element type and total count from all of
the previous collections. Click each element type to open a table with the attributes for all of the
elements of that type.
