SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN MATHEMATICS V

I. Objective
At the end of the discussion the students shall be able to;
A. Name the basic shapes.
B. Identify which are the regular and irregular polygons.
C. Understand the differences between regular and irregular polygons.

II. Subject Matter


Topic: IDENTIFYING POLYGONS
Reference: Student Hand Book , Mathematics for A Better Life 5.
Materials: Instructional materials , Flash Cards.

III. Presentation
A. Preliminary Activities
a. Opening Prayer
b. Greetings
c. Checking of attendance
d. Review
The teacher will review about their last topic which is all about whole numbers.

IV. Procedure
• ENGAGE
The teacher will start a lesson with a song entitled "The Chuga Dance". Chuga up!
Chuga! Repeat 4x. Chuga Down! Chuga! Repeat 4x. Chuga Left! Chuga! Repeat 4x. Chuga
Right! Chuga! Repeat 4x.

• EXPLORE
The students will identify the following shapes.

• EXPLAIN
Polygons are the closed plane figures with 3 or more sides. Polygons with all sides
are equal is called Regular Polygons and which are not having an equal sides is called
Irregular Polygons. These are the following example of Polygons:
a. Triangle- has a three sides.
b. Quadrilateral - has a four sides.
c. Pentagon - has a five sides.
d. Hexagon - has a six sides.
e. Heptagon has a seven sides.
f. Nonagon has an eight sides.
g. Decagon has a ten sides.

• ELABORATE
The class will be divided into Four Groups. Each group will draw an example of
Polygons and identify it whether it is a Triangle, Quadrilateral, Pentagon, Hexagon,
Heptagon, Nonagon, or Decagon. Atleast 1-5.

• EVALUATE
In a one half sheet of paper the students will going to describe the name of Polygon
according to its sides and identify wether it is Regular Polygon or Irregular Polygon. Do not
draw the shapes on your paper, answer only.

V. Enrichment
Draw an example of Polygons that you can see in your house put it in a bond paper,
draw atleast 3-5 examples.
