We already answered some of these questions last week!

Find the answers you have already formulated and transition them from separate
answers to a coherent depiction of yourself as a student.

1. How do you feel about reading? Can you describe a time when you really enjoyed something you were
reading? What do you know about how you read?
Reading isn’t my strong ability, I can read but it isn’t my top choice of what I like to enjoy, I find myself to be easily
distracted and not knowing what I had just read. I really enjoyed reading horror or thriller genre of books because
each chapter was like a cliffhanger making me want to come back and read more to know what more is happening.
2. How do you feel about writing? Can you describe a time when you wrote something that you enjoyed
writing? What do you know about how you write?
When I don’t know how to organize my ideas for a writing assignment, I usually just go with my thought process that
goes on while im writing. When I try to persuade my reader to agree with my beliefs and opinions, I usually add in
personal anecdotes to create a sympathetical opinions. I am usually more successful writing when I write about
topics that I am more interested in rather than a prompt that I am forced to write.

3. What would you like to learn about reading and writing? What reading and writing skills do you feel less
confident about and would like to develop? I would want to learn more vocabulary such as not repeatedly using
the same word but have a variety of other choices in my mind. And learn how to organize what I want to say in a
minimum of five paragraphs or less and be more descriptive.

4. Describe a time when you set a goal for yourself and how you went about working toward the
attainment of that goal. What was the goal? How did you go about trying to achieve it? What or who
helped you to move toward the goal? What got in your way? Are there any goals you are currently
working to achieve? If you were to describe your degree of confidence in your ability to set and achieve
goals you create for yourself, how would you describe your level of confidence in setting, undertaking,
and achieving goals?
I set a goal to receive good grades during my last year of middle school and to accomplish that what I did was
devoting more of my time toward my studies even on the weekends. My teachers and parents motivated me to work
toward the goal because they had constantly told me to work hard and study more and till this day they still do but I
have lost some motivation in myself. Wanting to hang out with friends and procrastination had gotten in my way and
throughout the years it has gone so much worse.
5. We know from research that people tend to prefer to learn in a particular style or mode. Those learning
styles include: visual (by seeing), auditory (by hearing), or tactile (by doing).
From what you know of yourself, in which of these three modes do you think you prefer to learn? Could
you provide an example of your learning in that mode? Are there times when a combination of styles
serves your learning best? If so, what are these combinations? I am definitely a visual learner because I
tend to find it easier and much more reliable seeing how a concept is being explained, It sticks to my memory much
better. An example would be watching a movie of the book we had just read as a class, I can’t visualize with just
words and I always side track with what's going on in the story but if we end up seeing the film in class I am able to
understand the story more. Visual and tactile is a combination that really works for me, I like to get hands on with
material im working on especially in science classes such as labs and even dissections as well.

6. When there’s a discussion in class about a book or topic,

a. do you like to jump in and participate? Not really because others like to take over and disrupt me.
b. Or do you prefer to listen to the conversation and take it in? Yes because I get to listen to more ideas
and opinions
c. Are you comfortable asking questions in class? Only when I am asking the teacher alone.
d. Or do you prefer to figure things out on your own even though you may be having trouble
understanding a text or an issue? I am independent towards my study but I will always find myself
having trouble
e. Would you challenge someone’s opinion in class if you didn’t agree with it or saw the issue in a
different way? Only if it’s a topic that I am interested in.

Your answers to these questions may help you understand the degree to which you are the kind of person
whose mental energy tends to be directed inward (introvert) or outward (extrovert).
Whether we tend to be more introverted or more extroverted can have a profound influence on what we prefer
to do with our time and how we learn.
Given what you know about yourself, how much of an introvert or an extrovert do you think you are? (It might
help to rate yourself on a scale of 1 to 10, first as an introvert and then as an extrovert, after which you could
explain why you gave yourself those ratings.)
Self-Portrait- Be honest, be open. 1 page minimum
Using the information you have gathered about yourself and organizing that information
into a coherent picture, compose a Self-Portrait that represents what kind of reader,
writer, and learner you think you are at this time in your life as a student. Where
possible, provide evidence, perhaps in the form of a remembrance or story from the
past, to support observations you make about yourself as a reader, writer, or learner.

The learner I find myself to be is active and interested to gather more knowledge. And the reader in me
isn’t as strong as I was to be wishing I was more active in reading. I am the most confident in my writing, I tend
to not have strong vocabulary but my ideas and anecdotes I find to be very detailed and elaborate to the topic or
theme I am writing about. Back in middle school I was more involved with discussions especially in my science
classes, I would jump in socratic seminars and let out all my thoughts only when I am to be confident which is
rarely. In AP English Language my sophomore year it was a great class I took because I learned more about my
writings and writing styles which helped me build more confidence in myself. I read a lot in elementary but not
so much anymore which I would like to change. Being a visual learner, I am more confident in my work such as
reading, writing, and learning.

I consider myself to be both extrovert and introvert it just really depends on my mood because of my
personality and getting along with the right people in school. Everyone is different in school and may not get
along with me. I am in an introvert during school hours not being from shy but just observing others and seeing
how people work.
