CHAPTER-1

INTRODUCTION

The life on earth exists because of air and water. What happens if both are polluted? This is the
situation in most of the urban areas. Air and water are being polluted at a rapid rate due to the
excess use of chemicals, fertilizers, emissions of Fuels from vehicle, leakage of Fuel from
household etc. Fuel emissions create respiratory illness and also environmental problems like acid
rain, ozone layer depletion etc. Fuels are volatile compounds which are colorless, odorless and
tasteless. So, when these compounds spread in air it will be difficult to identify with human naked
eye. At present several methods are available which detect the Fuel leakage. But the drawback of
these systems is it uses a static network of sensors. By using this static network the correct source
of leakage cannot be identified. The Fuel as soon as it leaked it will spread very fast in air. Thus,
a proper device should be required to detect the leakage.

Fuel Management Systems (FMS) are utilized to keep up, control and screen the fuel utilization in
an association that utilizations transport, including: rail, street, air and water as methods for
business. At present the associations are confronting a significant issue of dealing with the fuel
transportation because of manual observing. This manual checking gives a wasteful method for
computing and examining the fuel ingestion and can prompt budgetary misfortunes for the
organization.

In the by most associations there is no logging or evaluating component to watch that the quantity
of liters composed on the receipt relate to the real measure of fuel in the tank. The driver takes the
vehicle to the fuel station, fills the tank and gets the receipt from the pump station manager or
supervisor, referencing the quantity of liters of fuel filled into the vehicle tank, date and the sum.
The driver gives this receipt to the individual responsible for the association, which keeps up the
record and sends the sum to the pump station manager or proprietor toward the month's end.

This situation is influenced by numerous potential imperfections: the driver does not know whether
the measure of fuel filled in the fuel tank is equivalent to the sum pronounced on the receipt.

1
Another defect of the framework is brought about by deceiving data made by the pump station
administrator. A third model would be the association of the staff from organization's
administration work force which submit extortion by adulterating data with respect to the measure
of fuel filled. Fuel burglary in moving vehicles is expanding step by step nowadays. Also, the high
fuel costs add to the disappointment of a fuel robbery. This task centers around the fuel burglary
issue and advances a successful answer for this issue. It detects the measure of fuel in tank and
outwardly shows it to the utilized. It effectively recognizes fuel burglaries utilizing an exceptional
strategy.

It distinguishes whether the vehicle is off. On the off chance that if the fuel diminishes while
vehicle is off it triggers an event and this event is connected to message sending usefulness. Fuel
level detecting gauge will be attached with µC through ADC. Amount of the fuel will be shown
on LCD. SIM card will be interfaced with µC with the help of GSM. Parallelly, if the fuel level in
the tank diminishes while vehicle is in OFF state, at that point an alarm will be sent to client's cell
phone in text structure.

In general, an embedded electronic platform which can instrument a moving vehicle with chemical
sensing system for Fuel leakage detection and environment monitoring. This system consists of an
ARM microcontroller which is 64 bits. Global Positioning System (GPS) used for detecting the
location of Fuel leakage. Four MQ series sensors are attached to the system which is used for
detecting Liquefied Petroleum Gas or Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG), methane, ammonia, carbon
monoxide and humidity. A camera is attached to this system for monitoring the area where there
is possibility for the Fuel leakage. The vehicle moves through a predefined path. This device works
in two modes firstly it works in predefined path. Secondly it move by manually i.e. as instructions
given by the controller.

The LPG or propane which is combustible blend of hydrocarbon fuels. This is utilized as fuel in
numerous applications like homes, lodgings, enterprises, autos, vehicles due to its attractive
properties which incorporate high calorific worth. Because of the high calorific value which
produce the less smoke, creates less sediment, and does not make much destruction to nature.
Natural fuel is another generally utilized fuel in homes. The two fuels consume to create clean
energy, but there is a significant issue about their spillage noticeable all around in air. The fuels

2
being heavier than air don't scatter effectively and may prompt suffocation when breathed in
additionally when fuel spillage into the air may prompt blast. Because of the blast of LPG fuel, the
quantity of deaths has been expanded lately.

To keep away from these issues there is a requirement for a framework to identify and furthermore
counteract spillage of LPG or Leakage of LPG. Fuel spill discovery is the way toward
distinguishing conceivably risky fuel spills or leaks by methods for different sensors. These
sensors as a rule utilize an alarm to alert individuals when a perilous or dangerous fuel is identified.

3
1.1 Existing System

As of late, fuel use wellbeing can't be idealistic. Right now, the principle fuel network recognition
is the utilization of compact/handheld fuel leak finders, vehicle-attached Fuel system checking
framework, and the inconvenience is that the both location frameworks can't accomplish ongoing
fuel data gathered. Along these lines, so as to conquer this downside, utilization of a sensor based
proposed framework to accomplish and defeat the impediments in the previous framework is
proposed.

As in the current system the ability to monitor the fuel pilferage or the fuel adulteration and the
leakage of fuel and the drawback is that the two systems cannot gain an on-going fuel information
collected. So, in order to overcome this drawback, the author uses a sensor based proposed system
to achieve and overcome the disadvantages in the earlier system.

4
1.2 Objectives of Proposed Project

The remote observing and control to fuel pipelines and fuel storerooms at spots, for example, fuel
spillage can be acknowledged by utilizing this proposed framework. This proposed system
contains the data acquisition section and the collection section. Data acquisition section contains
the pressure sensor, flow sensor, Fuel sensor for monitoring the pressure, speed, and leakage of
the Fuel. The sensor values will be in analog format so, the proposed framework has the necessities
for the simple to advanced converter to change over the incentive into computerized. The values
will be uploaded in internet via GPS modem using the PC. When any abnormality occurs in the
sensor value then the buzzer will be invoked and alert the person.

The main objectives of the system include:

 To study and understanding of existing tracking of fuel trackers and anti-adulteration.

 To design and development fuel leakage detector such as PETROL, LPG, and other petroleum
products.

 To design and development of Anti Adulterations for the petroleum products.

 To enhance the security and safety measurements for the petroleum products.

 To prevent the theft of the fuel and to make the automatic tap locking system.

 To validation and Testing of proposed method with existing system.

CHAPTER-2
LITERATURE SURVEY
Ganesh Katkar et al. [1] depicts about WI-FI modem which send message to proprietor or owner
of vehicle when there is fuel burglary going on. Vehicle Petrol burglary is one of the principles
worries of many bicycle proprietors and vehicle proprietors. Ordinarily we have heard or a few of
us have officially confronted that petroleum from their bicycle or vehicles has been stolen. The
authors express their primary aim of their paper is to maintain a strategic distance from such
circumstance. In SMS based oil robbery recognition framework, utilizes a Level sensor to
distinguish the oil level in oil tank. In the event that the dimension or level goes underneath certain
threshold level, at that point this sensor gives a specific signal to ARM. At that point ARM turns
on the alarm and sends SMS to the vehicle/bicycle proprietor. ARM is a fundamental heart or
Central Processing Unit of the framework.

Senthil Raja et al [2] portrays about the present framework which utilizes Wireless based
correspondence for checking the vehicle's position. At first, the procedure includes estimating fuel
level pursued by evoking the data and sends it to the server for further location. At long last, the
message is sent alongside vehicle position and fuel level in the tank. This empowers in
distinguishing the dimension or level of fuel at various occasions at whatever point the tank is
opened. This improvement in sensors will be an extraordinary aid to eliminate fuel burglary and
vehicle situating issue.

Ahmed M et al [3] portrays that another ultrasound-based procedure was created to decide oil,
emulsion and water level in the oil tank. It comprises of a minimized, programmable ultrasound-
based multilayer level estimating gadget for a feed forward neural system is actualized. The
benefits of this strategy over current strategies incorporate contactless separation estimation,
higher exactness, lower costs, simpler arrangement and nonionizing radiation is utilized. The other
bit of leeway of this innovation to light-based technique is its inhumanity toward a dusty and
smoky condition and the autonomy of the article material and surface. Starter preliminaries were
completed on the device.
Anirudha Mule et al(4) In this paper the author has made advanced fuel meter. Here, the creator is
showing measure of fuel present in tank carefully. The value is in numerical digits (ex: 1lit, 1.5 lit,
2lit etc). Fuel theft is likewise a major issue everywhere throughout the world. In this paper the
task at whatever point there is fuel theft, because of the noise of the buzzer, the individuals know
about the fuel theft and furthermore during fuel robbery an instant message is conveyed on the cell
phone to the proprietor or owner of the bicycle.
