FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Part 1) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards, after the draft finalized by the
Shipbuilding Sectional Committee had been approved by the Transport Engineering Division Council.

This standard (Part 1) lays down requirements for the drinking water connection for attachment of piping from
another ship or from a land distribution system.

Part 2 of this standard covers components of filling connection for drinking water tanks.

In order to achieve harmony with the international practices, this standards is based on IS0 5620-1:1992
‘Shipbuilding and marine structure - Filling connection for drinking water tanks, Part 1 : General requirement’
published by international Organization for Standardization.

The requirements of the Statutory Authorities are to be complied with as may be applicable to the individual ship
concerned.

For the purpose of deciding whether a particular requirement of this standard is complied with, the final value,
observed or calculated, expressing the result of a test or analysis, shall be rounded off in accordance with
IS 2: 1960 ‘Rules for rounding off numerical values (revised)‘. The number of significant places retained in the
rounded off value should be the same as that of the specified value in this standard.
