CONCLUSIONS

• A flat slab is preferable to normal slab, because they are less time consuming and they
effectively save the building height there by becoming more economical.

• Flat slab also gives an aesthetic look to the building and provides flexibility to choose the room
layouts as there are no beams in between.

For the considered flat slab, the design gives the following results:

• For negative moment in column strip along longer side, provide 16mm ∅ bars @121mm c/c.

And for positive moment provide 12mm ∅ bars @ 164mm c/c.

• For negative moment in middle strip along longer side, provide 12mm ∅ bars @ 661mm c/c.

And for positive moment provide 12mm ∅ bars @ 770mm c/c.

• For negative moment in column strip along shorter side, provide 12mm ∅ bars @ 99mm c/c.

And for positive moment provide 12mm ∅ bars @ 235mm c/c.

• For negative moment in middle strip along shorter side, provide 12mm ∅ bars @ 946mm c/c.

And for positive moment provide 8mm ∅ bars @ 488mm c/c.

 However, cost of flat slab becomes costlier as compared to normal frame construction [ involving

columns, beams and slabs]

 The total cost of the steel requied for given project can be calculated from bar bending

schedule as 86337kg x Rs 40/kg = Rs 34,53,480.00
