How to get a new insurance Ifyou are from a non-EU country and do not hold a European Health Insurance Card, you will have to take out a Swiss insurance. Please choose among the following options: Close all (0) pease are student insurance package for in- national students ‘Academic Care by Groupe Mutuel is a student insurance package for in- temational students at very cheap rates. Academic Care doesn't operate under the KVG law, so you will need an "exemption from the Swiss health insurance obligation according to the KVG law’ if you decide to take it! Decide on your annual deductible (CHF 500, CHF 100 or CHF 0). Please fol- low the instructions on the website carefully. Should you have any ‘questions, contact the person mentioned on the Groupe Mutuel web- site. We do not recommend to go to a Groupe Mutuel angency in person since the staff there will not be familiar with the procedures of this specific product, 3. Print and complete the insurance proposal and "Form A" and send both to the address mentioned on the Groupe Mutuel website (by post or email). Please include a copy of your residence permit and a confirmation of matriculation at ETH Zurich. 4. Wait for the insurance policy and the insurance card to be sent to you by post. 5, Wait for the decision from the Health Department regarding your ex- ‘emption from the KVG insurance obligation. Once you have received that, the procedure is completed. Visit https://swisscare.com/, choose "International Student Insurance” and follow the instructions. Read everything carefully, compare the 3 different insurance plans (Standard, Comfort, Premium) and decide (on which one suits you best. 3. Open the confirmation email and follow the instructions regarding the exemption from the KVG insurance obligation! It is extremely impor- tant to do this immediately! 4, Wait for the insurance policy and the insurance card to be sent to you by post. 5. Wait for the decision from the Health Department regarding your ex- ‘emption from the KVG insurance obligation. Once you have received that, the procedure is completed. Important: Please note: Swisscare is the only student insurance which is accepted in ALL cantons! student insurance package for inter- national students Student Care by SWICA is a student insurance package for international students at very cheap rates. Print "Form a", fill out the first page, scan/photograph it in good qual- ity and save it on your computer. 3, Scan/photograph your ETH confirmation of matriculation and your residence permit in good quality and save both on your computer. ‘These documents have to be uploaded later on during the online applicaction process. 4. Complete the online application form at www.swica.chien/eth-student- ‘care and submit it. 5. You will receive a confirmation email containing your insurance pro- posal. This is for your guidance only. It does NOT have to be sent anywhere! 6. Wait for the insurance policy and the insurance card to be sent to you. \Wait for the decision from the Health Department regarding your exemp- tion from the KVG insurance obligation. This can take several weeks. Once you have received that, the procedure is completed. Wait forthe letter from the authorities informing you that you need a health insurance (this happens AFTER you applied for a residence permit). Fill in the name of the insurance company you are going to choose under "Name der aktuellen Krankenkasse” on the first sheet and send it back using the retum envelope you received. If you live outside the city of Zurich, the procedure will be different and you may not receive a letter. Visit www.comparis.ch or wrw.priminfo.ch (available in German, French, Italian) and choose your favoured insurance plan. 3. Oder an offer online via Comparis / Priminfo or visit the website of the insurance company you chose and order it via that website. 4, Wait for the offer, sign it and send it back to the insurance company. 5. Inform yourself about an IPR (premium reduction), for which you can apply once you have been living in the same canton for at least 3 months. Please check out our example letters if you are unsure about the content of a letter you have received from an authority! Non-EU/EFTA students with a private insur- ance from their home country Citizens of non-EU/EFTA countries with a private insurance from their home country could theoretically also apply for an exemption. Please note: itis EXTREMELY rare that such exemption requests are approved and we strongly recommend buying a Swiss health according to the instructions above If you nonetheless would like to try to be exempt from the Swiss health in- surance obligation, please follow the instructions in the = Guidelines to an exemption from compulsory health insurance (PDF, 50 KB) In case your application for an exemption has been refused by the Health Department of the Canton of Zurich («Gesundheitsdirektion»), your immediate reaction will be extremely important in order to avoid that you will be forcefully insured! Billing procedure / How to get your money back After you have seen a doctor you have to do the following: 1.
