Question 1: In the video (09:30), there is a test about memory ability for elderly. Do
you think that it is fair? What is the problem of the test design?

I think it is not a fair test. The test estimated that all elderlies have been focusing on
the politics of the Japanese government as a part of their daily life, which is not
completely true for some others. The level of awareness about Prime Ministers can be
different on different people, so that the test originally has more than one uncontrolled
variable which cannot show exactly how memories were affected by aging.

Question 2: What is the advantages of playing Tai Ku (太鼓) for the elderly?

Firstly, playing Tai Ku can help elderlies to use their whole body. Tai Ku is a big
instrument with thick drum skin and played with a pair of thick stick. Therefore, it
requires more force and energy of elderlies to play it loud. It requires to be played
with strong upper body muscles, and secure lower body. It is just another varied form
of aerobic exercise, which also helps with the blood circulation of elderlies to prevent
heart and brain related diseases.

Secondly, playing Tai Ku can train the reception and memorizing skills of elderlies.
Tai Ku is also a kind of performing arts which focuses on rhythms and timbre. It can
train the listening and memorizing skills by listen and copying the rhythm and timbre
played by the teacher, like the echo game shown in the video.

Thirdly, Tai Ku could attract more elderlies from Japan to communicate with others
and do more exercises. Many elderlies have less intention to go for a walk or do
proper exercise due to their worsening physical abilities. However, Tai Ku is a
collective memory for Japanese and they enjoy playing it with others, which gives
them more activation to do exercise and maintain a stable social life.

5 different levels of four-beat rhythms for the game. Level 1 is easy and Level 5 is
