Thesis Evolution

Draft 1:
Gender stereotypes in the workplace is an ongoing issue. It is hard for women to adapt
to their workplace because it is believed traditionally that they should not be taking male
dominated positions and should instead stick to doing “women things”. Women deal
with gender stereotypes that interfere with their self esteem in the workplace.

Draft 2:
Gender stereotypes in the workplace is an ongoing issue and the commercial exploits it
by showing men and women performing the same tasks, but unlike men, women are
labeled negatively because of their gender. As a result, women in the workplace, may
be influenced to feel a sense of empowerment by buying the advertised hair care
product.

Final Draft:
The juxtaposition of the praised male behavior versus the critiqued women behavior in
Pantene’s ‘Labels Against Women’ commercial demonstrates gender-based double
consciousness. As a result, the commercial takes advantage of gender-based double
standards, but trivializes true equality as a product she buys.
