5 Ways to Easily Send SMS from

Your PC
By Tracey Rosenberger – Posted on Apr 13, 2019 in Internet

Text messaging has become one of the most popular ways to carry on conversations in
our world today. The convenience of using SMS is universally known. Sometimes,
though, for one reason or another, you may prefer to have access to text messaging on
your computer.

No matter your reason, if this is something you want to do, follow one of these
methods for texting that do not require the use of the messaging app on your phone.
1. Your Email Account
This only works for USA and Canadian phone numbers. An often unknown way for
you to text without your phone is for you to use your regular email client. To use your
email to send a message:

1. Click to compose a new email like you normally would.

2. Insert the person’s ten-digit phone number.

3. Add your recipient’s carrier code from the chart below.

If you are not sure which carrier your recipient has, you can look it up.

 Freecarrierlookup.com

 Freesmsgateway.info

These sites will check to make sure it is a wireless number and give you the SMS and
MMS addresses for that contact.

2. Chrome Extension

If you are a Gmail user, you can use a Chrome extension called Send Your Email to
SMS (text) to send text from your email. It’s a nice little app that allows you to send
ten messages for free each month. If you do more than that, you need to upgrade to an
unlimited plan for about $55 a month. For a small business, this could be a way to
send messages to your customers.

1. Go to the Chrome Web Store and download the extension.

2. Open Gmail in your browser. You will see that the extension adds a phone icon to
your email window.

3. Click on Compose to begin a message.

4. Click on the phone icon near the bottom-left corner.

5. Type the number you want to text.

6. Type your message and send it out.

With this extension, you don’t have to locate and type in the carrier code. It will
automatically do it for you.

3. Windows App
If you have a Windows machine, you can use the “Your Phone Companion” app to
send and receive texts. The drawback to using this program is that you cannot send or
receive photos or other media.

To use the Your Phone Companion App to text:

1. Press the Windows button on your keyboard, and click on “Your Phone “on the app
list.

2. If you have not connected your phone yet, the app will walk you through that.

3. Once they are connected, you have access to all your text messages and can create
and receive messages from there.
You can also access pictures you’ve taken with your phone. You can’t send them, but
you can see them.

4. Free Websites
You have a choice of some free websites that you can use to send messages. Here are
a few examples of the many that are available.
GlobFone

GlobFone only has an SMS option; you cannot send pictures. To use it, all you need
to do is put in the number you want to text and add a message. The recipient cannot
reply, but the site has a status check to make sure the message was delivered correctly.

TxtDrop
If you want to use email but don’t want to go through the hassle of finding the carrier
code or typing it in yourself, you can try TxtDrop. To use it, put in your email address
and the phone number of the recipient, and send the text. All you need is the country
code and number. The site gets the carrier code for you.

The recipient can reply to you. It comes to your email, and you can continue a
conversation that started that way. It’s very cluttered, though, and it isn’t easy for the
recipient to read on a phone

5. Text Sync Apps

Another way of texting from your computer is to install one of several different apps
that sync your text messages onto your laptop.
Pushbullet

Pushbullet is one of the most popular desktop apps to connect your Android phone to
your computer. It not only pushes SMS messages between the devices, but it also
includes Notification Mirroring, pushing all your notifications from your Android to
your computer. Pushbullet used to be free, but they reduced the number of features on
their free platform and added a paid level of $5.00 a month.
AirDroid

AirDroid is nearly the same as Pushbullet. You can also view your camera and dial
your phone remotely, and all these features are only $2.00 per month.

MightyText
This app for sending SMS messages from your PC is a browser option, not a desktop
app like Pushbullet and AirDroid. MightyText lets you synchronize your SMS
messages along with your notifications, photos, videos, and all the major desktop
browsers. It’s free for up to 500 messages a month, and after that it will set you back
$5.00 month.

If you find that texting on your phone is not the most efficient way for you to create
messages, try one of these other ways to send them. These methods that allow you to
use your laptop computer to text make it easier to keep in touch.

To send SMS messages using SMS Sender, follow the steps below:

1. Download SMS Sender from Microsoft's web site

(http://www.microsoft.com/globaldev/outreach/dnloads/smsSender.mspx) and install it.

2. Run SMS Sender and you should see something like this:

Figure 1. The screenshot of MS SMS Sender in Windows XP.

3. In the Available Devices combo box, select the modem that we installed earlier.

4. In the Destination Number text box, enter the recipient's mobile number. To send
international SMS messages, include the country code before the recipient's mobile
number. For example, the country code of the United States is 1. To send an SMS text
messages to the mobile number 6123456789 in the United States, enter +16123456789 in
the text box, or simply 16123456789. SMS Sender supports other mobile number formats.
Please refer to SMS Sender's readme file if you are interested in the details.

5. In the Body of the message text box, type the text message you want to send to the
recipient.

6. Click the Send button to send the SMS text message out.

Sending SMS Text Messages in Other Languages

SMS Sender supports the sending of Unicode SMS messages. This means you can send
SMS text messages written in languages other than English, such as Arabic, Chinese,
Japanese and Korean. To send Unicode SMS messages, click the Options button in SMS
Sender's main window and select the International characters (UCS-2) item. If you select
the Autodetect the encoding check box, SMS Sender will detect what you type and choose
the appropriate character encoding automatically.

Figure 2. The screenshot of MS SMS Sender's Options dialog box in Windows XP.

Note that using the UCS-2 Unicode encoding reduces the maximum number of characters
that can be included in an SMS text message. An SMS text message encoded in Unicode
can contain at most 70 characters, while an SMS text message encoded in GSM default
alphabet can contain at most 160 characters.

Logging SMS Text Messages Sent

SMS Sender can log the SMS text messages sent. This allows you to look back at the SMS
messages sent earlier. To enable logging, click the Options button in SMS Sender's main
window. Then in the Options window, select the Enable Logging check box. To view the log
file, click the View Log button in the Options window. In the log file, you can find the
information below:

 Time and date that an SMS text message was sent

 Destination mobile number
 Body of the SMS text message

Importing Phone Book Entries

It is possible to import phone book entries from a mobile phone into SMS Sender. To do so,
click the Phone Book button in SMS Sender's main window. In the SMS Sender Phone
Book window that appears, click the Import button.

Figure 3. The screenshot of MS SMS Sender's Phone Book dialog box in Windows XP.
Figure 4. The Contact Information dialog box appears if you click the Add contact button.

SMS Sender allows you to add, delete or make changes to phone book entries. However,
SMS Sender cannot export phone book entries to the mobile phone. This means the
changes you made to the imported phone book cannot be reflected on the mobile phone.
So, it is better to make changes to the phone book directly on your mobile phone, and from
time to time, clear the phone book in SMS Sender and re-import the phone book from the
mobile phone.

SMS and texting have come a long way in recent years. It wasn’t long ago
that you had to pick up your phone in order to send a text or SMS to your
friends. Now you have the option to do so from your PC. There isn’t a large
selection of apps that can do this, but the ones available are actually pretty
good. Here are the best apps to send text and SMS from your PC instead of
your phone. If you don’t mind betas, WebPhone is also quite promising.

AirDroid is a popular name in the texting from PC space. You’ll be able to send texts and SMS
from your PC fairly easily. It’s also quick to set up. It also has a host of other features including file
transfers, backup and sync, contact management, and even the ability to record screenshots from
your PC. It’s a powerful app that can do some awesome things. The premium version is a
subscription model with a fairly reasonable price tag. With it, you’ll be able to send larger files,
transfer entire folders, transfer an unlimited number of files, and more.

Price: Free trial / $4.99

DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY

Join is one of the newer options to send text and SMS from your PC. It uses the typical style where
you install the app on your phone and then you install the extension on your browser. You’ll then
be able to do stuff in your browser instead of your phone. On top of sending texts and SMS, the
app can also show you notifications, share your clipboard between devices, access Tasker and
Google Assistant, send files, take screenshots, set your wallpaper, and even share your location.
It’s also one of the few that has a pay-once price after the 30-day free trial.

MightyText
Price: Free / $6.99 per month / $59.99 per year

DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY

MightyText is a popular option for a lot of people. It offers the basics, including the ability to view
notifications, send texts, send MMS, and even some fun stuff like low battery alerts. The free
version of the app lets you send 250 texts per month. The pro version is a $6.99/month
subscription service that removes the text limit, lets you see live notifications, and gives you a few
other features. It's not the cheapest option. However, it's fairly stable. It's one of the better send text
from PC options.

mysms
Price: Free / $9.99 per year

DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY

mysms is not as well known as some of its competitors. It's still one of the better methods to send
text and SMS from your PC. Its claim to fame is that you don’t need a browser extension to make it
work. It has native apps for iOS, Android, Microsoft Windows, iPad, Mac OS, and there is a
Chrome extension if you want it. The basic app lets you send and receive text messages from
your PC. The pro version gives you a bunch of other features as well. The subscription cost is
much cheaper than most of its competitors. That makes it the cheapest non-free option available
on the list.
Pulse SMS
Price: Free / $10.99 / $0.99 per month / $5.99 per year

DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY

Pulse SMS is one of the newer apps that can send text from your PC. It works as a free
standalone SMS app. You can then turn it into a multi-device SMS app with its browser extensions
or its web messenger. You can do all of the basic stuff. That includes responding to text and MMS
messages. It also allows you to blacklist numbers, schedule messages, archive conversations,
and it even has dual-SIM support. The app is free to use and the service is free to try. You can pay
$10.99 for a lifetime license or a monthly subscription based on your needs.

Pushbullet
Price: Free / $4.99 per month / $39.99 per year

DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY

Pushbullet caught some fire for being among the first of these services to charge money. Now that
everyone does it, it's a little difficult to stay mad at them now. Pushbullet is still among the best
apps to send text and SMS from your PC. It uses the typical browser extension method along with
installing the app on your phone. On top of sending texts, you can send files, see notifications, and
a bunch of other things. You can use the service for free. Doing so will limit you to 100 texts per
month. Upgrading to the pro subscription will remove all restrictions.

Text Free
Price: Free with in-app purchases

DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY

TextFree is something a little different. It’s a web app (accessible from any browser) that lets you
send free text messages to anybody. The catch is that you can’t do it from your own phone
number. The service gives you a random phone number that you can use to text people. Sending
text and SMS messages from the app is free, but you will have to pay for minutes if you want to
call someone using the service. It’s a neat way to send free text messages. That is, as long as you
don't mind doing it from a different number. The in-app purchases are for sticker packs, mostly.
TextNow
Price: Free with in-app purchases

DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY

TextNow is a lot like Text Free. It's a web app that lets you send text messages. Unfortunately, like
Text Free, the service gives you a random number in order to do so. That means you can't use
yours. It's definitely a good idea for those who have limited texts or don't care about what number it
comes from. There are in-app purchases, but they're for phone minutes when calling out. You can
send unlimited texts to the US and Canada with this. There are a bunch of services like this, such
as Yappa, but this app worked a little better for us.

Manufacturer or carrier apps

Price: Free (usually)

DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY

There are a variety of OEM and carrier apps that can text from PC. For instance, Samsung's
SideSync mirrors your phone to your PC screen. You can then text that way. These apps directly
connect to your carrier (like Verizon Messages) or to your phone (like Samsung SideSync).
However, they can provide an easy, free way to do stuff like this. Cortana also has similar
functionality when Microsoft isn't adding and removing it randomly. There aren't a ton of apps that
do this, though.

Screen mirroring apps

CHECK OUT THE BEST SCREEN MIRRORING APPS!

Screen mirroring is a quick and dirty way to text from your PC. You basically just connect your
device to your PC with one of these apps. The texts are directly from the device instead of through
a service. However, that also forces you to plug your phone in, get the drivers right, and launch the
proper software. It's not the easiest solution. However, it's one of the more secure and it's literally
compatible with every type of messaging app, whether it's WhatsApp, SMS, or Google Hangouts.
The prices vary and the tools differ, but we have our article linked up at the button above if you

Send text or SMS from your PC using your email

Believe it or not, you can actually send texts through your email client. It’s a
huge bother to set up, but it actually works pretty well once you do. Text
messages go through an SMS gateway. This gateway is essentially an email
address that forwards your text to the relevant device based on its number.
Let’s do an example for US Cellular in the United States:

 US Cellular’s SMS gateway is number@email.uscc.net.

 Your friend’s number is 614-867-5309.
 Thus, you’d send an email to 6148675309@email.uscc.net.

With this method, you can send text and SMS from your PC using your email
client without any additional apps. You can do this in many countries as well.
The only caveat is that the MMS gateway may be different from the SMS
gateway so you’ll want to limit your messages to 160 characters or risk it not
going through. Of course, you could always just find the MMS gateway and
send it that way. Additionally, some carriers, such as T-Mobile, require you to
use the country code along with the phone number. You can find a list of most
SMS and MMS gateways by clicking here. You can also see what carrier any
given phone number has by using this nifty online tool. This is also an
amazing way to send a quick text if you happen to lose your phone entirely.
