Domestic Violence among Schedule tribal women of Uttar Pradesh

Abstract

Background: Domestic violence is an issue for large numbers of Native women both on Indian
tribal lands and outside of Indian country Domestic violence is one of the crimes against women
which are linked to their disadvantageous position in the society. Domestic violence refers to
violence against women especially in matrimonial homes. Therefore domestic violence is
recognized as the significant barriers of the empowerment of women, with consequences of
women’s health, their health health-seeking behavior and their adoption of small family norm.
Objective: 1) With this study we attempt to explore the reality of domestic violence, type and
frequency among tribal people of Uttar Pradesh. 2) To study the Measurement of Domestic
Violence and Experience of Violence by Women. 3) To find out the Main social service
innovative program for decreasing domestic violence against tribal people Method: The data
used for this study was obtained from National Family Health Survey-3(NFHS-3) collected
information from a nationally representative sample of 109,041 households, 124,385 women age
15-49, and 74,369 men age 15-54. And information collect from different reports, papers and
journal are used. Results: The analysis shows that the women belonging to low socio-economic
status are more likely to agree with each of the different reasons justifying wife-beating. Again
domestic violence is more among lower autonomy and women belonging to low socio-economic
status. Main social service innovative program: Supported living after rehabilitation program
for people with mental health problems, mobile health offer for Tribal women in tribal region,
Training Of local level employees to take assignments, Community well‐being initiative through
acting and drama/Nukar natak ,Develop Frame work for use of personal skills in dependent life ,
Rehabilitation And Support at home of elder and sick people of tribal community
Recommendation: we have to Set Up a Collaborative Working Group, Develop a Protocol ,
Develop and Institutionalize a Staff Training Program, Increase Community Awareness
Participate in health fairs, tribal radio, television and print news segments and other community
events. Engage Youth, Boys and Men Encourage men to mentor boys about relationship
violence and how to respect women
