TELEVISION PROGRAMME IDEAS

An investigative piece looking at modern technology in sport. This programme would explore the
evolution of technology in sport and also look at how the rules have evolved to accommodate the
technology. We would also explore whether role of the modern referee has changed and how older
referees have had to adapt to new rules, and whether or not it is easier for referees now or if the
controversy has made the job more difficult. As a case study, we think it would be a good idea to
look at football in particular mainly because of the recent controversy surrounding VAR in the
Premier League. However we would compare and contrast it to many other sports and look at how
effective it is in other sports and whether VAR will be as effective in other sports. We could also look
at if people are falling out of love with sport because it’s too complicated.
RACISM IN FOOTBALL

An investigative, hard-hitting programme looking at all types of abuse in football. This is an issue that
has been in sport for many years but in football it is particularly being highlighted now in the age of
political correctness and equality. We would look at the positive changes for example the inclusion
of women in football and ethnic minorities too. However, we would also discuss the amount of
abuse that still exists in the modern game and what governing bodies can do to stop it. We will
explore whether abuse can only be stopped in football when it is stopped outside of the game in
society itself. This would link to the target audience because it may discourage people from pursuing
a career in sport.
WAGES FOR SPORTSMEN

An investigative piece highlighting a controversial issue. We would look at the differentiation

between different sports and whether there should be a wage cap. We would also explore the wage
gap between male and female athletes. We would look at whether in the current climate, money is
needed for more important things and also if admission fees to watch sport is so high to pay wages.
We would also look at a different side, mainly focusing on the charity work that many athletes do
and how many use their money for good causes.
