ACTIVITY No. 4
STABILITY
Part1
Work on open-loop control system of Antenna Azimuth Positioning (shown after the
front cover of our book). From Pre-amp Input to Angular Displacement Output (Load).

1. Review the over-all transfer function derived from Activity No. 2.3.
2. Determine System stability using Routh-Hurwitz method. Tell whether stable,
unstable or marginally stable.

From Activity 2.3

6360
𝑇(𝑠) =
𝑠3 + 101.32𝑠 2 + 132𝑠 + 6360

Roots of the Transfer Function:

𝑠1 = −100.6363
𝑠2&3 = −0.3418 ± 𝑗7.9424
Evidently just by looking at the roots, the poles that can be plotted will all be on the
LHP on the s plane ∴ 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒚𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒎 𝒊𝒔 𝑺𝑻𝑨𝑩𝑳𝑬

Using the Routh-Hurwitz method

Routh Array is:

𝑠3 1 132 0
𝑠2 101.32 6360 0
𝑠1 69.23 0
𝑠0 6360

1 132
−| |
𝑏1 = 101.32 6360 = 69.23
101.32
101.32 6360
−| |
𝑐1 = 69.23 0 = 6360
69.23
∴ 𝒏𝒐 𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆 𝒊𝒏 𝒔𝒊𝒈𝒏𝒔 𝒊𝒏𝒅𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒕𝒆 𝒂 𝑺𝑻𝑨𝑩𝑳𝑬 𝒔𝒚𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒎
