2.4 Replacing the Antenna Feeder Interface Cable

The antenna feeder interface cable connects the main feeder to the antenna feeder
interface of the ZXSDR R8863. It receives/transmits signals from/to antennas.
When the antenna feeder interface cable is being replaced, all services carried by the
cable will be interrupted.

Prerequisite
l The tools required for the replacement are prepared, including a wrench, a utility knife,
a pair of diagonal pliers, and a socket wrench.
l A new RF cable is prepared, and the new cable is of the same type as the old one.
Each type of sites have the corresponding set of RF cables.

à If the type of a site is changed due to capacity expansion, spare RF cables are
selected according to the actual site type.
à If only one single RF cable is to be replaced, the spare RF cable is selected from
a proper set of RF cables in accordance with the actual required length.

Chapter 3
Waterproofing Outdoor
Connectors
After the entire antenna feeder system is installed and the antenna feeder test is
passed, waterproof and sealing handling must be immediately performed for the outdoor
connectors between jumpers and the tower amplifier and the outdoor connectors between
jumpers and feeders.

Context
The waterproof handling for outdoor RF feeder connectors and earthing kit is performed
in "1+3+3" mode. In other words, the connectors are wrapped with one layer of insulating
tape, three layers of waterproof tape, and three layers of ultraviolet-proof tape. The other
cable connectors are wrapped with two layers of ultraviolet-proof tape and both ends of
the cables are firmly tied.

The following procedure uses the feeder connector as an example to describe how to
waterproof outdoor connectors.

Steps
1. Remove dust and oil from the feeder connector and the feeder grounding clip, and
clean them.
2. Wrap the connector with one layer of insulating tape.

After a connector is connected, wrap insulating tape on the connector in the fastening
direction, with the upper layer overlapping 1/2 of the lower layer. The wrapped
insulating tape is 10 mm longer beyond the connector end. Keep enough stretching
force when wrapping the insulating tape, and do not stretch the tape too much, see
Figure 3-1.

3. Wrap the connector with three layers of waterproof tape.

Stretch the adhesive waterproof tape twice of its original length, and wrap each
connector with the tape about 50 cm long for three layers, see Figure 3-2.

Wrap the tape in the same direction of fastening the connector, and ensure that the
connector is not be loosened in the wrapping process. After the tape is wrapped, use
both hands to squeeze the tape and ensure that the tape and the feeder and feeder
connector are stuck firmly.

Figure 3-2 Wrapping Three Layers of Waterproof Tape

Note:
The three layers of tape is wrapped in the following manner: from bottom to top, from
top to bottom, and from bottom to top, with each layer of the tape covering one third
of the previous layer, preventing the connector from rain water. It is prohibited to cut
the tape in the wrapping process, and the wrapped tape is 20 mm longer beyond the
connector end.

4. Wrap the connector with three layers of ultraviolet-proof tape.

Wrap the tape in the same direction of fastening the connector, with each layer
overlapping 1/2 of the previous layer. Make sure that the ultraviolet-proof tape is

10 mm above the waterproof tape. Wrap the tape for three layers. After the tape is
wrapped, use both hands to squeeze the ultraviolet-proof tape and waterproof tape
and ensure that they are stuck firmly, see Figure 3-3.

Figure 3-3 Wrapping Three Layers of Ultraviolet-Proof Tape

5. Fix the two ends of the tape.

Use black ultraviolet-proof cable ties to bind the two ends of the tape tightly, see Figure
3-4. Use a pair of diagonal pliers to cut off excess cable ties with a 3 mm margin in
case of tape expansion due to high temperature.
