Note:
The ZXSDR R8863 can be installed on a pole, on a wall, or on a gantry. The replacement
procedures are similar for the three installation modes. In the following section, a ZXSDR
R8863 installed on a pole is used as an example to describe the replacement procedure.
Steps
Disassembling the ZXSDR R8863
1. Notify the OMC administrator that the ZXSDR R8863 must be replaced, and ask the
administrator to block all cells of the site.
2. Power down the faulty ZXSDR R8863.
Find the output power switches corresponding to the faulty RRU, and set them to OFF.
Figure 1-1 shows the power switch positions.
3. Wear the antistatic wrist strap, and ground it reliably. If there is no proper grounding
point for the antistatic wrist strap, wear the antistatic gloves.
4. Remove all cables from the faulty equipment, and paste labels on the cable ends. For
how to remove cables, refer to Chapter 2, Cable Replacement.
The cables to be removed include:

a wrench, a pair of crimping pliers for tubular terminals, a flathead screwdriver, and a
cross screwdriver.
l A new power cable is prepared, and the new power cable has the same type and
length as the old power cable.
Context
Figure 2-1 shows the external view of a DC input power cable.
For the signals of the DC input power cable, refer to the following table.
Steps
Removing the Cable
2-1
1. (Optional) If the new power cable is made on site, perform the following operations to
make the DC power cable connectors.
a. Trim the cable with the lengths of the shielding layer, sub-wires, and bare copper
cores, see Figure 2-2.
b. Put the tubular terminals on the trimmed bare copper cores, and crimp the tubular
terminals with the crimping pliers, see Figure 2-3.
c. Secure the bare part of the shielding layer with a cable clamp, and ensure that
they fully contact with each other.
2. Record the output switch status of the external power distribution cabinet, and turn off
the corresponding output switches of the replaced power cable.
Find the output power switches corresponding to the replaced power cable, and set
them to OFF, see Figure 2-4.
2-2
3. Record the connection information about the old power cable, and remove the old
power cable.
a. Open the operation and maintenance window, and remove waterproof tapes from
the old power cable.
b. Use a flathead screwdriver to press the top bar until the top bar cannot spring
back, see Figure 2-5.
c. Pull out the tubular terminals from the crimping socket, see Figure 2-6.

The labels on the new power cable must be consistent with those on the old power
cable.
6. Bind the power cable.

bundling points is not more than 0.8 m. The cables must be bundled tightly at the
two sides of a cable bending.
l After cables are bundled, the surplus cable part must be cut off. For indoor cables,
the surplus cable part must be cut off without leaving any sharp edge. For outdoor
cables, the surplus cable part must be cut off with a 3 mm margin. Black cable ties
and white cable ties cannot be used simultaneously in binding the same cables.
White cable ties are used for binding indoor cables while black cable ties are used
for binding outdoor cables.
7. Verify that the new power cable is installed properly, and use the multimeter to measure
the –48 V power cable and GND power cable to verify that there is no short circuit.
8. Perform 1+3+3 waterproof handling. For operation details, refer to the “Chapter 3
Waterproofing Outdoor Connectors”.
9. Turn on the corresponding output power switches on the external power distribution
cabinet, and check the power cable according to Table 2-1.

Prerequisite
l The tools required for the replacement are prepared, including a pair of diagonal pliers,
clean cotton gauze, a cross screwdriver, and antistatic wrist straps.
l The information about the quantity, lengths, and types of the optical cables to be
replaced is obtained.
2-6
l New optical cables are prepared, and the new optical cables are of the same type as
the old ones.
Context
The ZXSDR R8863 has two optical interfaces (OPT1 and OPT2), which are located inside
the operation and maintenance window. They support LC-type optical connectors. Figure
2-8 shows the external view of an optical interface cable.
Caution!
Do not look directly into or keep your eyes close to the end of an optical fiber. Failure to
comply can result in permanent eye damage.
Steps
Removing the Cables
1. Record the connection information about the faulty optical cables.
2. Remove the faulty optical cables.
a. Unscrew the optical cable clip, see Figure 2-9.

lower than the lower edge of the feeder window, there is no need to make a water
bend.
l If outdoor optical cables are routed along an outdoor cable ladder, the cables
must be bundled with proper force. For optical cables horizontally routed, the
distance between two adjacent cable ties is not more than 1 m. For optical cables
vertically routed, the distance between two adjacent cable ties is not more than
0.8 m. The cables must be bundled tightly at the two sides of a cable bending.
It is recommended that outdoor optical cables and outdoor DC power cable are
bundled separately, and there is no special requirement on the distance between
the two.
l The outdoor optical cables are routed without twists or windings.
l It is prohibited to place any heavy cable on the routed outdoor optical cables, and
the cables must be protected from sharp edges.
4. Remove the dustproof caps from the optical connectors of the new optical cables, and
keep them well for future use.
5. Connect the new optical cables according to the recorded positions.
For how to install an optical cable, refer to the ZXSDR R8863 Macro Radio Remote
Unit Engineering Installation Guide.
Note:
The LC/PC, SC/PC, and FC/PC optical connectors are respectively used for sending
and receiving. Make sure that the optical fibers are inserted correctly; otherwise,
optical signals cannot be received and sent properly.

Context
The waterproof handling for outdoor RF feeder connectors and earthing kit is performed
in "1+3+3" mode. In other words, the connectors are wrapped with one layer of insulating
tape, three layers of waterproof tape, and three layers of ultraviolet-proof tape. The other
cable connectors are wrapped with two layers of ultraviolet-proof tape and both ends of
the cables are firmly tied.
The following procedure uses the feeder connector as an example to describe how to
waterproof outdoor connectors.
Steps
1. Remove dust and oil from the feeder connector and the feeder grounding clip, and
clean them.
2. Wrap the connector with one layer of insulating tape.
After a connector is connected, wrap insulating tape on the connector in the fastening
direction, with the upper layer overlapping 1/2 of the lower layer. The wrapped
insulating tape is 10 mm longer beyond the connector end. Keep enough stretching
force when wrapping the insulating tape, and do not stretch the tape too much, see
Figure 3-1.
3-1
Wrap the tape in the same direction of fastening the connector, and ensure that the
connector is not be loosened in the wrapping process. After the tape is wrapped, use
both hands to squeeze the tape and ensure that the tape and the feeder and feeder
connector are stuck firmly.
Note:
The three layers of tape is wrapped in the following manner: from bottom to top, from
top to bottom, and from bottom to top, with each layer of the tape covering one third
of the previous layer, preventing the connector from rain water. It is prohibited to cut
the tape in the wrapping process, and the wrapped tape is 20 mm longer beyond the
connector end.
Wrap the tape in the same direction of fastening the connector, with each layer
overlapping 1/2 of the previous layer. Make sure that the ultraviolet-proof tape is
3-2
10 mm above the waterproof tape. Wrap the tape for three layers. After the tape is
wrapped, use both hands to squeeze the ultraviolet-proof tape and waterproof tape
and ensure that they are stuck firmly, see Figure 3-3.
