 1 PREFACE

This Method of Procedure is applied to give the engineer a clear guideline during
commissioning new NE (new site) 1830PSS-36

2 SCOPE

The scope of the following operating procedure concerns the tests carried out on
standatd configured equipment belonging to the 1830PSS-36

3 INITIAL TURN-ON AND SETTING

3.1 Visual inspection for subrack installation and cabling

 Rack allocation: according to station layout.

 Subrack allocation in the rack: according to station layout.
 Subrack configuration (units installed): according to plant documentation (ODM).
 Connections between equipment PSS-36 and PSS-32 (SCUP to SFD-44) or PSS-36
and PSS-36 (SCUP to SCUP): according to plant documentation.
 Rack and Subracks ground connections (cable section).
 Power Supply connections (polarity and cable section).

3.2 HW Setup
There are six circuit packs that may be installed in fixed locations, per subrack The slots
used for these packs are reserved and may not be used for any other circuit packs
types.

All other circuit packs must be placed per the customer order, work order, or rack face
drawing

 3.2 Subrack ID Setting
There are two BT36 cards factory-installed in the back upper left (slot #42, behind slot
#1) and upper right (slot #43, behind slot #22) corners of the circuit pack slot area of
each Alcatel-Lucent 1830 PSS-36 subrack.

The subrack ID is set prefabricated, make sure it is set as

• Rotary switch on BT36 card 1: 1
• Rotary switch on BT36 card 2: 0xE

 In case the subrack ID is not as define above follow the procedure below:
 Pull out the BT36 card using MPP extractor tool
 Use a flat blade jewelers style screwdriver to turn the rotary dial switch to set the
subrack ID as state above
 When done insert card and check for its correct seat

 4 START UP PROCEDURE

4.1 Equipment Turn-On

The Equipment is started up through the 6 circuit breakers on the Top Rack Unit.

3 for power A and 3 for power B

Check the voltage ‘+’ lines against the rack frame. The result is the voltage on the PDU must be in
range of -40…-72 Vdc

NOTE: Do not proceed if the voltage is outside the range!!

4.2 PC Start Up
Make sure all software for commisioning are already install on PC
- Internet Explorer
- Java 1.6

4.3 Software Download

The software is initially delivered to the customer on a DVD. The software generic has to
be copied from the DVD to a PC and then to an empty USB flash drive (“USB stick”).
Afterwards, the USB flash drive is used to transfer and to load the software generic onto
the disk of the FLC.

Required equipment
The following equipment is required to perform this task:
 USB flash drive
 DVD that contains the new generic/version of the Alcatel-Lucent 1830 PSS suitable
NE software.
 PC with USB 2.0 interface.

 Download Procedure:
 Copy the NE software form DVD to the USB flash drive

 Insert the USB flash drive with the system software into the USB plug of the FLC
located in the worker slot

 Press the reset button on the FLC

 Then press the ACO button on the FLC and hold it ntil LED 1 is flashing green

 The progress of the initial SW installation from the USB flash drive is indicated by
LED 1 on FLC. The LED 1 lits until the FLC has booted the release SW with the
default name FLCHCA and the default IP address 18.70.1.3

 Wait around 30 minutes for the SW installation has finished and the FLC is ready
(indicates to be in active state) when both, the STAT and the EPS LEDs display
‘GREEN’ color

PC CONNECTION SETTING

Initialize the NE using EZ setup tool

Connect the LAN port of the PC to CIT port of the FLC
Set the PC LAN interface to 169.254 subnet
Java 1.6 is installed on the PC
Use Mozilla Firefox 3.0 or Internet Explorer 7.0

5.1 NE Login Procedure

 Start the default browser with https://169.254.129.111/
 Ignore the certificate warning
 A new window opened

  Click the Easy Setup tab
 Login with User Name: SERVICE
 And Password : Ansi_4GX
 After able to login directly change the password
 Change the FLC IP Address, Loopback IP Address, Control Plane IP and the NE name
referring to the documents (ODM)
 Logout after finish

TEST AND MEASUREMENT

6.1 Instrument Accessories

 Optical power meter
 Variable optical attenuator
 Digital multimeter
 SDH/SONET analyzer

6.2 Local Measures List

The purpose of local measures is to check the correct operating mode of the equipment
units.
 Optical Power test
 Receiver sensitivity test
 FLC redundancy
 MTX redundancy
